Abstract

An adjustable sheet material support device comprises a hollow leg (4), a lower leg (2) and a T-shaped support (5). The device enables sheet material for example plasterboard, to be supported whilst it is fixed to a wall or ceiling. Panels of sheet material can be positioned on the T-shaped support which may be fixed to or detachable from the hollow leg (4). The lower leg (2) telescopes within the hollow leg (4) to adjust the height and a locking release lever (1) holds the two legs together in a locked relationship. The upper surface of the T-shaped support is provided with a non-slip flexible material such as rubber or plastic. Similarly, the base of the device is provided with a non-slip foot (3).

Description

Sheet Material Support Mechanism (Plasterers Mate) This invention relates to a Plasterers Mate.
The Plasterers Mate is an adjustable support for sheet material including plasterboard. The support will enable a person single handedly to temporarily hold plasterboard (sheet material) in place prior to permanent fixing.
Currently fixing plasterboard (sheet material) is usually a two-person project. The adjustable support provided by the Plasterers Mate will enable single handed fixing of plasterboard (sheet materials) to ceilings or overhead timber or other supporting structures.
This invention comprises of an adjustable telescopic leg with a non-slip stabilising arm. The T shaped stabilising arm with adjustable telescopic support leg has a release/locking mechanism to enable the plasterers mate to be adjusted to the correct height to support plasterboard (sheet material) prior to permanent fixing. On top of the stabilising arm is a grooved non-slip flexible material, rubber or plastic, to minimise any possible indentation or permanent damage to the plasterboard (sheet material).
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the Plasterers Mate extended to full height.
Figure 2 shows the Plasterers Mate supporting a piece of plasterboard (sheet material) In order for the Plasterers Mate to be used the release locking leaver is released to extend the telescopic leg to the required height. The Plasterers Mate is then held under the plasterboard and pushed upward to push the plasterboard (sheet material) tight up against the ceiling structure. Once in place final adjustment of the locking release lever may take place before final fixing as illustrated, fig (1).
After final fixing the release locking mechanism is released.
Referring to the drawing, the Plasterers Mate consists of a T shaped mechanism with the adjustable locking assembly as in fig (1). This is supported by a solid metal (or other suitable material) leg, fig (2) with a non-slip foot, fig (3). Fig (4) shows a hollow shaft to offer the height adjustment required.
The non-slip stabilising arm, fig (5) is designed to be either fixed or detachable, fig (6). The top of the stabilising arm, fig (7) is designed with a flexible material (rubber/plastic) to minimise damage to any materials supported. The base of the Plasterers Mate has a non-slip foot, fig (3).

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1) An Adjustable Sheet Material Support Mechanism (Plasterers Mate) comprising of an adjustable telescopic leg with crossing T bar to support plasterboard (sheet material) prior to permanent fixing.
  2. 2) An Adjustable Sheet Material Support Mechanism (Plasterers Mate) as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the telescopic leg has a release locking lever to ensure correct height adjustment.
  3. 3) Adjustable Sheet Material Support Mechanism (Plasterers Mate) as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, where the stabilising arm can be either fixed or detachable with a non-slip flexible or rigid material that minimises damage to the materials supported.
  4. 4) Adjustable Sheet Material Support Mechanism (Plasterers Mate) as claimed in any preceding claim that has a non-slip foot at the base.
  5. 5) Adjustable Sheet Material Support Mechanism (Plasterers Mate) as claimed in Claim 4 that has a hollow shaft supporting the non-slip flexible or rigid faced stabilising arm.
