Abstract

A vessel for retaining the temperature of food or drink comprises an outer container 1, an inner container 2 and a hinged lid 3. The inner container 2 is made from an impact and thermal shock resistant material and is held against the base 5 of the inner container 2 by an annular casing member 7 which is connected to the outer container 1. There is also a seal 9 between the annular casing member 7 and the inner container 2. The outer container 1 also has a dish 6 which is adapted to be clamped to its base 5. There is an insulation layer located between the inner 2 and outer 1 container which may consist of a foam body 15.

Description

Title: VESSEL FOR RETAINING THE TEMPERATURE OF FOOD OR DRINK This invention relates to a vessel for retaining the temperature of food or drink.
German Design M 89 04 792 discloses a heat-retaining sauce-boat, in which a double-walled evacuated glass insert is contained in a plastic outer casing. A drawback of this configuration is that the outer container is constructed in two parts with a join. It has also been found that the use of an evacuated glass insert is unsuitable, in particular when employed as a sauce container, owing to its sensitivity to impacts, as quite heavy sauce spoons are often used. It breaks very easily.
It is therefore the aim of the invention to provide a temperature-retaining vessel which is kept very simple in construction and also readily withstands an impact by a relatively large heavy spoon. Desirably, single-handed use should also be possible.
According to the invention, there is provided a vessel for retaining the temperature of food or drink comprising an outer container, an inner container, insulation located therebetween and a removable lid ; wherein the outer container includes a casing, a dish adapted to be clamped on the base region of the casing, the casing being open at the top, and an annular casing lid; the annular casing lid pressing the inner container, which is produced from an impact and thermal shock resistant material, against the base of the casing with the interposition of a seal and the annular casing lid being connected to the casing by catches and/or adhesion or welding.
The production of the inner container from a material which is resistant to impacts and thermal shocks, for example from stainless steel or thermal glass, enables close tolerances to be maintained. Adjusting devices can in turn be dispensed with, so that the casing can be produced in one piece, and the inner container is merely held by an annular casing lid with the interposition of a seal.
Preferably, the annular casing lid has an orifice which is arranged to be closed by the removable lid.
The removable lid is preferably hingedly mounted on the casing and is desirably double-walled in design for insulation purposes. The hinged lid may be provided with a rocker button which enables single-handed operation.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a spacer ring is provided on the base of the casing for supporting the inner container. Assembly of the inner container in the casing is thereby simplified.
Insulation consisting of at least one foam body may be provided between the casing and the inner container. Preferably, the insulation comprises a single foam body and serves as a spacer for the inner container.
The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the drawing which is a cross-section through one embodiment of a vessel according to the invention.
Referring to the drawing, a vessel for retaining the temperature of food or drink is essentially composed of a three-part outer container 1, an inner container 2 and a hinged lid 3.
The outer container is composed of a casing 4 on which a dish 6 is clamped on the base region 5 and an annular casing lid 7 covering the casing 4.
The base region 5 of the casing 4 is provided with an internal spacer ring 8 on which the inner container 2 rests and against which it is pressed via the annular casing lid 7 with interposition of a seal 9. The annular casing lid 7 is locked on or stuck or welded to the casing 4. The annular casing lid 7 receives, via a recess 10, the hinged lid 3 which consists of an outer dish 11 with a rocker button 12 and an inner dish 13 and is held rotatably in the recess 10 by two catch pins 14.
Foam bodies 15 are inserted between the casing and the internal container 2 to provide insulation.
