Abstract

An <I>in vivo</I> modification process is described. The process affects the mannose-to-galactose ratio of either an organism (or part thereof) capable of producing a mannose/galactose containing compound or of a mannose/galactose containing compound thereof. The <I>in vivo</I> modification process comprises expressing a nucleotide sequence that has an effect on: (a) the mannose-to-galactose ratio of mannose and galactose components of a mannose/galactose containing compound; and/or (b) the mannose-to-galactose ratio of mannose and galactose precursors for a mannose/galactose containing compound; and wherein the nucleotide sequence is antisense to at least a part of the gene for a UDP-galactose epimerase enzyme.
