Abstract
An overflow cover for a bath or sink comprises a front wall (1) which is spaced from a flange (8) by means of which the cover is attachable to the bath or sink so as to cover an overflow opening in a substantially vertical wall of the bath/sink, the arrangement being such that the wall constitutes a substantially horizontal weir over which water has to pass in order to flow from the bath/sink to the opening. Preferably, a float valve mechanism (2) is fitted into a hole on the underside of the cover. In use, the cover allows an increased depth of water in the bath/sink.
Description
BATH WATER RAISER This invention relates to a water level raiser.
Any vessel that is designed to hold liquid and is fitted with an overflow outlet, can only be filled to a limited depth (ie. the height of the overflow). Sometimes, it may be necessary or desirable, to increase this depth for whatever reason.
If a person fills a bath to a fairly deep level and that person is quite big, when they sit down in the bath, the water level will rise and if that person then lays down for a nice hot soak, the water level will rise above the overflow level and any excess water will drain away, until the level drops back to the overflow. This is very wasteful, inconvenient and annoying.
According to the present invention there is provided a water level raiser comprising a single piece of formed plastic with means of adhering it in a position covering an overflow outlet. There is a float valve fitted into a hole on the underside of the device and as the level of liquid rises, it makes the device water-tight so that the level can then be raised to the desired amount. This device will overide the existing overflow outlet.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described in detail by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:Figure 1 shows in perspective, the water level raiser being fitted into the correct position; Figure 2 shows in perspective, the raiser in the correct position; Figure 3 Illustrates by a sectional view the device working at maximum depth; Figure 4 Illustrates by a sectional view the liquid completely drained away; Figure 5 shows in perspective, a drain plug being stowed inside the device when not being used.
Referring to the drawing Fig 1 the water raiser comprises a single piece plastic or ceramic body 1 and a spherical float valve 2 fitted into a round hole 3 on the underside of the raiser 1 and is retained in position by means of a 'T' bar locator 13 (as shown in Fig 3).
Before the raiser 1 can be fitted into position 10, the plug chain 4 must be disconnected from the existing anchor point 5 then refitted into the raiser's own anchor point 6.
The protective tape 7 is removed from the double-sided adhesive tape on the rear of flange 8, the raiser is then held in position covering the overflow outlet 9 and pressed firmly into position 10.
Fig 2 shows the existing maximum water level 11, the new higher level 12 and the float valve 2 is shown in the raised position sealing the raiser by means of hole 3 (as show in Fig 4). Fig 3 shows a sectional view through the body of the raiser 1 with the float valve 2 raised and the new higher level 12. Fig 4 shows a sectional view through the body of the raiser 1 and the position of the float valve 2 when the water has drained away, any residue that is left in the raiser will drain out through the hole 3. Fig 5 shows the plug 14 being stowed in the raiser 1 when not in use. The raiser will also help to stop any cold draughts that may come from the overflow outlet. The raiser would be colour coded to match the bath or vessel it is to be used in.
Claims (8)
1 A water level raiser comprising a one piece formed body and a means of fixing the raiser into position in a vessel that requires a higher fill level.
2 A water level raiser as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the raiser has means of being held in a fixed position for use, by self-adhesive tape or silicon sealant either method resulting in a water-tight seal against the inner wall of the vessel that needs the maximum depth increasing.
3 A water level raiser as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein a float valve mechanism comprising a spherical float and 'T' shaped bar (these arejoined together toform thefloat valve). The float valve is fitted up through a hole on the underside of the main body of the raiser and retained in position by the 'T' bar.
4 A water level raiser as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3, wherein the raiser, when it is located in a position completely covering an existing overflow outlet in a vessel, will allow the level of liquid to rise higher than the existing maximum level because the liquid as it rises, forces the float valve up inside the hole underneath the main body of the raiser forming a watertight seal and allowing a greater depth as required.
A water level raiser as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein as the liquid in the vessel is drained away after use any surplus liquid that may have overflowed into the raiser and been trapped below the existing overflow outlet, will drain out of the raiser as the float valve drops and exposes the drain hole on the underside of the raisern.
6 A water level raiser as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 and Claim 3 wherein the body of the raiser is used to stow the drain plug from the vessel in which it is fitted.
7 A water level raiser as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the raiser, because it is positioned over the overflow outlet of the vessel in which it is being used (eg. a bathtub or hand basin) the raiser will stop any cold draughts that may come in through the overflow outlet.
8 A water level raiser substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-5 of the accompanying drawing.
