Abstract

An anti-theft device for a motorbike or like vehicle comprises two hingedly connected parts (10,11) which locate around the throttle control (T in figure 1) and brake lever (L in figure 1) located on the handlebars of the vehicle and are locked in position by means of lock (16). The inner faces of the two parts have recesses which combine together when in the locked position to define channels (14,15) through which the throttle and brake lever pass. The brake lever channel (15) is located so that the lever is in the brakes on position when the two parts are locked together. Parts (10,11) may be made from plastic or metal, and the lock (16) can be either key operated or of a combination type.

Description

234080 6 AXE-THEFT DEVICE This invention concerns an anti-theft device for
a motorcycle. By the term motorcycle, we include vehicles of a similar kind such as motor scooters and mopeds having a rotatable throttle defining a hand grip and an adjacent pivoted brake lever.
According to the present invention, there is provided an anti-theft device for a motorcycle comprising lockable means for immobilising the throttle control and adjacent brake lever of the vehicle.
The means may comprise a pair of hingedly connected parts adapted to be locked together with the throttle control and brake lever passing therebetween.
The inner faces of the parts may have transverse recesses which mate to define channels through which the throttle control and brake lever may pass.
The location of the channel for the brake lever may require the brake to be operated to enable fitting of the device.
The lock may be key-operated.
The lock may be a combination lock.
The invention will be flirther apparent from the following description with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing which show, by way of example only, one form of device embodying same.
Of the drawing:- Figure 1 shows a plan view of the device in an operative condition; and Figure 2 shows a side elevation of the device of Figure 1.
Referring now the drawing, it will be seen that the device comprises a pair of parts 10 and 11 hingedly connected at their forward ends by a concealed hinge 12.
The parts may be folded together with the throttle control "r' and adjacent brake lever "L" of a motorcycle located therebetween.
The inner faces of the parts 10 and 11 have transverse recesses which come together to define channels 14 and 15 through which the throttle control "T" and brake lever "L" pass.
The diameter of the channel 14 is such that when the device is in position the throttle control "T" is firmly gripped and prevented from rotation relative to the device. This is possible since the surface of the control "T" is defined by a resilient sleeve. 'The brake lever "L" prevents operation of the throttle control "T" by rotation of the device as a whole.
"Re channel 15 is located and aligned such that the brake must be operated to its on position to enable fitting of the device.
A key-operated lock 16 enables the parts 10 and 11 to be secured together in their operative position.
In use, the device is deployed and secured by the lock 16 in its operative position preferably with the throttle control '1 at its minimum setting thus frustrating any attempt even to start the engine of the motorcycle.
The parts 10 and 11 are moulded from a hard plastics material and are preferably of a bright colour.
It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereoú Thus, the lock need not be key-operated and may be of the combination kind.
Again, the parts need not be of a plastics material and may be of metal.
channel for the brake lever may be of extended width and may have its two halves packed with a resilient material such as rubber.
