Description
1 2338922 The Process for Preparing Silicone Rubber Pushbuttons
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to a process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons.
Description of the prior art
Conventional silicone rubber pushbuttons are composed of both of rubber and plastic materials and therefore, an additional mold for the plastic material is necessary, which adds the process a very high cost Further, conventional processes for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons are generally both complicate and time consumptive as well as needed a high cost Accordingly, there exists a need for developing a new process for preparing silicone rubber pushbutton to overcome these problems.
SUMMARY OF THE EWENTION
In order to solve the above-said technical problems, one object of the invention is to provide a process for preparing silicone pushbuttons, said process comprises forming pushbutton main bodies, printing on surfaces thereot and coating a primer thereon, while forming separately a shaping mold for accommodating said pushbutton main bodies, and injecting polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)/polyurethane (P13) blend, then, covering said shaping mold with said pushbutton main bodies, irradiating with ultraviolet light thereonto, removing said shaping mold, trimming excess cured PMMAIPU and baldng to obtain finished silicone rubber pushbuttons.
1 Another object of the invention is to provide silicone rubber pushbuttons prepared by the process according to the invention, which have beaudU appearances and good practicability.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
The invention, as well as its many advantages, may be ftu-ther understood by the following detailed description and drawings in which:
The only one Figure is a block diagram showing the flowsheet of a process for preparing silicone pushbuttons according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Now, referring to the accompanied Figure, the invention will! be described more detailed hereinafter. As described above, the invention provides a process for preparing silicone pushbuttons, said process comprises forming pushbutton main bodies, printing on surfaces thereoA and coating on printed surfaces with a primer which was composed mainly of an amino fimctional siloxane and had a thickness of 10 - 20 g m; while forming separately a shaping mold for accommodating said pushbutton main bodies, which was made of transparent materials and had a recessed part corresponding to the shape of the pushbutton, wherein the distance between the bottom surface of said recessed part and the top surface of the pushbutton was less than I nun, and injecting polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)/polyurethane(PLT) blend to form a protecting layer having a thickness of about 2 nun on the top surface of the pushbutton, then, covering said shaping mold with said pushbutton main bodies onto said recessed part having PMMA/PU protecting layer injected therein, irradiating with ultraviolet light thereonto, for 2 - 10 min, removing said shaping mold, trimming excess cured PMNL4JPU and bal.dng at 60Cfor 2 hours to obtain beautiffil and useftd finished pushbuttons.
2 C'_ in the process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons according to the invention, suitable silicone rubber can be any silicone rubber that is used conventionally for preparing pushbuttons, and that can be a silicone- based rubber comprising as a main component a silicone 5 polymer having a backbone of polysiloxane such as W polydimethyLs-floxane.
In the process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons according to the inventioN the transparent plastic materials used for making the shaping mold can be any transparent thermoplastic materials such as, for example, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, PMMA, polycarbonates, and the like.
In the process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttone according to the invention, the primer used for coating on the printed surface of the pushbutton main body is amino fimctional siloxanes having following general formula H2N-R-Si-(OR9)3 wherein R is an alkylene group and each R' is independendy an hydrocarbylgroup.
In the process for preparing silicone rubber pushbutton according to the inventioN the time period for ultraviolet light irradiating can be in the range of 2 to 10 minutes.
In the process for preparing silicone rubber pushbutton according to the invention, the baking temperature for post-curing can be in the range of 50 - 801C, and the time period can be in the range of 1 - 3 hours.
In another embodiment of the process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons according to the invention, the PMNLVPU protecting 3 Layer could be any shape having a thickness of about 3 nun, while the baldng temperature was 651C and the baldng time was changed to be I hour and 40 minutes, and thereby, silicone rubber pushbuttons could also be obtained.
The process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons according to the invention has following advantages:
1. it can substitute combinations of rubbers and plastics.
2. provision of a mold for plastics can be omittted.
3. less time is needed for processing of products and the operation is simple, and hence the production cost is lower.
4. finished silicone rubber pushbuttons have beautiful appearance and practicability.
Many changes and modifications in the above described embodiment of the invention can, of course, be carried out without departing from the scope thereoE Accordingly, to promote the progress in science and the useful arts, the invention is disclosed and is intended to be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
4 WHAT IS CLAMED M 1. A process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons, said process comprises:
a. forming pushbutton main bodies, printing on surfaces thereof, and coating a primer thereon; b. forming separately a shaping mold for accommodating said pushbutton main bodies, and i ecting a thermoplastics material; UM C. covering said shaping mold with said pushbutton main bodies, and irradiating with ultraviolet light thereonto; and d. removing said shaping mold, trimming excess cured thermoplastics material and baking.
to obtain silicone rubber pushbuttons.
2. A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the thermoplastics material is a polymethyl methacrylate (PNEklA)/polyurethane (P" blend.
3. A process according to claims 1 or 2, wherein the time period for irradiating ultraviolet light is in the range of 2-10 minutes.
4. A process according to any of claims 1-3, wherein said baking temperature for post-curing is in the range of 50 - 800C, and the time period for said baking is in the range of I - 3 hours.
5. A silicone rubber pushbutton prepared by the process according to any one of claims 1-4.
6. A process for preparing silicone rubber pushbuttons substantially as described herein with reference to and as illustrated by the accompanying drawing.
