Abstract
A vehicle silent communicator comprising a usual display panel, the visual display panel being adapted to display a message or symbols, and a control panel, the control panel being operable to select the message or symbols displayed on the visual display panel. The visual display panel is suitably mounted to the rear of the vehicle, and the control panel may be mounted on the fascia, instrument panel or steering wheel. The communicator may include a voice recognition system to convert the spoken word into the required message for display.
Description
1 Title: Guardian This invention is a multi purpose inter road vehicle
silent communicator.
It serves two main functions:
2337842 Firstly it will issue warnings and instructions to other road users with regard to approaching hazards and/or vehicle breakdown andfor emergency such as driver illness, therefore acting primarily as a safety device.
Its secondary function will Cow motorists to communicate courtesy to other road users.
The system will comprise of two main components:
An electronic visual display screen/panel FIG 3, or VDS for short, mounted to the rear of a motor vehicle or motor cycle, and operated by means of a push button control panel FIG 1 mounted to the front facia of a vehicle or motor cycle.
The visual display screen/panel FIG 3 will be made of plastic or similar lan-dnate and will display high intensity fit intermittent and alternating words, instructions, or warning symbols to the rear by means of electrical circuitry or fight emitting diodes, or liquid crystal method or by some other technical method, and be manually activated by the push button control panel FIG 1, also made of plastic or lan-iinate, which will be wired or connected to the vehicle electrical/power system.
Alternatively this control panel FIG 1 could be powered by a high power renewable small 'sdve? battery or batteries or rechargeable batteries contained within itself. It could also be powered by solar panei energy or by new means yet to be invented or discovered.
It is feasible too that the system could be activated by speaking out the words or warning symbols using voice recognition method, where a microphone FIG 2 suitably situated could convert the sound into the appropriate electrical signal to display the required message.
It would be advisable to mount visual display panel FIG 3 to the rear windscreen of a vehicle or it could be mounted externally or be incorporated into the boot lid or rear panels or fight cluster units of vehicles.
The push button control panel FIG 1 would be mounted onto or be incorporated into the vehicle front facia or instrument panel, or steering wheel, and could be manufactured in rectangular, oval or triangular shape to fit any of these situations.
The visual display panel FIG 3 could be manufactured out of tinted and/or see through material so as not to Emit the drivers rear view. The wiring or circuitry could be incorporated within a laminated rear view screen and wired to the controlling system in the same fashion as a heated rear screen thus reducing any obstruction that a VDS might cause. Both components could be fixed in place using strong double sided 2 adhesive tape or plastic or metal screw fixings, or by less obtrusive means if incorporated into vehicle manufacture.
The push button control panel FIG 1 will display nine push on/off buttons 12 3 4 5 6 7 89.
This panel will be light grey in colour, the push buttons in black, and written in bright white upon these buttons will be words or instructions. When any of the buttons 1-9 are pushed 'OM they will illun-iinate to confirm they are operational, and when pushed once again will switch off.
The writing on the buttons could be luminous as well.
FIG 1 Button 1 when activated will display the word SLOW on the VDS in red capital letters and flash intermittently.
Button 2 when activated will display the word DIP on the VDS in red capital letters and flash intermittently.
Button 3 when activated will display i...,e word FOG on the VDS in red capital letters and flash intermittently.
Button 4 when activated will display the word ICE on the VDS in blue capital letters and flash intermittently.
Button 5 when activated will display the words TOO CLOSE on the VDS in red capital letters and flash internfittently.
Button 6 when activated will display the words PLEASE PASS on the VDS in blue capital letters and flash interntently.
Button 7 when activated will display the word THANKYOU on the VDS in blue capital letters and flash intermittently.
Button 8 when activated will display the word SORRY on the VDS in blue capital letters and flash intermittently.
Button 9 when activated will display two or more red warning triangle symbols and flash intermittently.
N.B. Button 9 can be replaced with two buttons so that the letters SOS in red capitals could flash intermittently when a tenth button is activated.
When this system is fitted in foreign countries the letters andlor symbols will be replaced by letters or symbols relevant to the corresponding particular language translation which will convey the same or sinfflar meanings as the British system herein described.
Claims (15)
1. A vehicle silent communicator comprising a visual display panel, the visual display panel being adapted to display a message or symbols, and a control panel, the control panel being operable to select the message or symbols displayed on the visual display panel.
2. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in claim 1 wherein the visual display panel is mounted to the rear of the vehicle.
3. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in claim 1 wherein the visual display panel is mounted to a rear windscreen of the vehicle.
4. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in claim 3 wherein the wiring and circuitry for the visual display panel is incorporated within a laminated rear view screen.
5. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in claim 1 wherein the visual display panel is incorporated into a boot lid or light cluster unit of the vehicle.
6. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the control panel is mounted to the front facia of the vehicle.
7. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the visual display panel includes light emitting diodes, by means of which the message or symbols are displayed on the visual display panel.
8. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in claims 1 to 6 wherein the visual display panel includes a liquid crystal display, by means of which the message or symbols are displayed on the visual display panel.

9. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim including a battery contained within the control panel, by means of which power is supplied to the control panel.
10. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim including a solar panel, by means of which power is supplied to the control panel.
11. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the control panel is mounted on a steering wheel of the vehicle.
12. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim including a voice recognition system, the voice recognition system being operable to convert spoken sounds in order to display a required message on the visual display panel.
13. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the control panel includes push buttons, by means of which the message or symbols displayed on the visual display panel may be manually activated.
14. A vehicle silent communicator as claimed in claimed in any preceding claim wherein the message or symbols displayed on the visual display panel are lit intermittently.
15. A vehicle display communicator as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
