Abstract
A twin-hooked lock, which consists of a cylindrical lock with axial movement fitted with an eccentric cog, mounted in a casing from which two pins 11 project. On each of these pins a free toothed wheel 5 is mounted. The wheels each engage with one of two opposed rack 61 projecting from a central body which is guided in the casing itself. This central body is fitted with a transverse sheave 62 in which the eccentric cog of the axially actuated cylindrical lock fits, so as to displace it linearly as it turns. The toothed wheels have notches for mounting the locking hooks without rotation. These turn with contrary movement, connected to the toothed wheels.
Description
ORMS3SS.GB 1 2335699 LOCK This is an invention of a twin-hooked lock which
would be a first choice for use on wooden cupboards, whether or not its use with similar metal fittings is considered.
Traditionally, all locks of this type use a standard axial closure, or a single hook. In neither case is the closure very secure.
The aim has been to increase the security of this type of closure without having to use locks of more complicated and/or sophisticated construction.
Another characteristic of the twin-hooked lock in this invention is that it functions efficiently regardless of whether the doors are arranged to fit flush or at right angles to the frame where the lock holding fitting is positioned. That is to say, several different methods of mounting (flush, angled, left-hand, right-hand) can be used with the same construction.
In order to give a better understanding of the subject of this. invention, the plans show an optimum choice for an actual application, where the attachments could be changed without adversely affecting the basic operation.
Figure 1 gives a general plan view of a twin-hooked lock, as specified by the invention, in the closed position.
This figure shows the hooks (7) in their open position, using dotted and dashed lines.
Figure 2 gives a profile view corresponding to the previous figure.
Figure 3 gives a plan view corresponding to figure 1.
Figure 4 gives a plan view similar to figure 1, but with the cover (2) and the lock (3) which 0 01.\15398.GB 2 is associated with it removed, so as to show the construction and layout of its internal components.
Figures 5 and 6 give the perspective views of two methods of mounting the lock, as specified in the invention, with respect to the lock holding fitting (8).
One example of a practical application of this invention is described below. This is not however the only method of installing it and others, where changes are made to the attachments which do not adversely affect the design, should definitely not be ruled out; on the contrary, the invention includes all its possible variations.
The invention involves a twin-hooked lock assembled in a casing (1) which is fitted with a removable cover (2). In this removable cover (2) is mounted a cylindrical lock (3) which is turned around its axis using a key (4) with an eccentric cog 01 The casing (1) and the cover (2) are held together by screws (9).
According to the invention, and in the application shown, inside the cover (1) are two projecting pins (11), and on each of these is mounted a toothed wheel (5), which can turn 0 fteely on its pin. Each of these toothed wheels (5) has notches (5 1) for mounting the closing hooks (7) without any rotation. This is achieved by making a hole with matching notches (7 1) in the hooks. The toothed wheels (5) and the closing hooks (7) mounted on them do not move in relation to each other.
According to the invention and in the application shown, there is a central body (6) inside the 20 casing (1) which can be displaced linearly, and is guided inside the casina between two extreme positions.
The central body (6) has two counter-acting racks (61) which each engage with one of the said toothed wheels (5), and a transverse sheave (62) onto which the eccentric axial cog of the cylindrical lock (3) fits.
ONS388,GB 3 With this construction and layout, one turn of the cylindrical lock (3) using the key (4) will displace the central body (6) linearly, and thus cause the toothed wheels (5) and the closing hooks (7) fixed to them to turn to reach the open or closed positions.
The closing hooks (7) connect frontally onto the lock holding fitting (8) when the lock is fitted at right angles to the frame - figure 6.
The closing hooks (7) connect sideways onto the lock holding fitting (8) when the lock is fitted flush to the frame - figure 5.

Claims (1)
1. A twin hooked lock, characterised by being constructed in a casing fitted with a removable cover in which is mounted an axially activated cylindrical lock with an eccentric cog; from the casing two pins project, each of which is fitted with a toothed wheel which can turn freely; these toothed wheels each engage with one of two opposing racks, which extend from a central body which is guided in the casing itself., the central body is fitted, on the face opposite the removable cover, with a transverse sheave onto which the eccentric cog of the axially moving cylindrical lock connects, displacing it linearly as it turns; further characteriscd in that the toothed wheels, which turn with opposing movement when the central body is displaced linearly, are fitted with notches for mounting the locking hooks without any rotation; and the hooks, which are fixed to the notches, turn with opposing movement between the two positions of opening and closing when the axial cylindrical lock is activated using a key, thus making the closure by positioning the twin hooks in the lock holding fittings.
