Abstract

This loudspeaker comprises a single moving coil motor unit 3,4 driving mutually opposed diaphragms 5. Both diaphragms are attached to a single voice coil and so as one diaphragm moves inwards the other moves outwards. Preferably the diaphragms 5, their suspensions 6 and their surrounds 7 should be identical.

Description

THE DOUBLE DIAPHRAGM This invention relates to a new loudspeaker moving coil transducer.
Electromagnatic drivers, at present, consist of sinale cone shaped diaphragm 1 which vibrates due to forces acting on it from alternating current in an inductor and forces acting on it from magnetic flux.
The double diaphragm has a different magnetic circuit and therefore a different motor coil assembly 2.
Suspending a collection of magnets ,which form a cylindrical pole 3 that outwardly radiates a south magnetic field , in between the inductive coil , and then suspending this in a larger hollow cylinder 4 magnet system ,similarly made with a collection of small magnets ,that radiates a North magnetic field inwards, enables another 5 cone shaped diaphragm to be run from the motor coil assembly but in the other direction.
Most problems presented to the loudspeaker builder, using the normal single diaphragm, relates to a means of either using the back sound wave produced in the form of baffles, folded horns and labyrinth vented enclosures, or to a means of controlling spring 6 resonances with closed box or reflex enclosures. The double diaphragm introduces new theory to each of these problems.
The front wave of one diaphragm becomes the back wave of the other diaphragm, and vice-versa.
The double diaphragm gives a higher electro-acoustic energy conversion efficiency.
The double diaphragm is more omnidirectional than the standard single.

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIMS 1.A moving-coil electro-acoustic transducer ,that drives two acoustically radiating diaphragms, which radiate acoustic waves in opposite directions.
  2. 2. The diaphragms ,as claimed in 1, are driven from the same moving-coil.
  3. 3.As one diaphragm ,as claimed in 1, is pushed away from the moving-coil, the other diaphragm is pulled towards the moving-coil , and vica-versa.
  4. 4.The moving-coil , as claimed in 1, is made to move by magnetic force from a combination of any possible magnetic force producing elements or fields.
