Abstract

233,295. General Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fiir Elektrische Gl³hlampen). May 5, 1924, [Convention date]. Addition to 223,837. Enamels.-The glasses and enamels described in the parent Specification are made more resistant to chemical action by increasing the silica content, the boric acid content being decreased at the same time in order to maintain the low fusing-point. The alkaline or alkaline earth oxides, selected in accordance with the typical molecular composition given in the parent Specification, are preferably replaced more or less by other oxides, such as those of zinc, magnesium, calcium, barium, or lithium, which reduce the coefficient of expansion. The resultant glasses and enamels have the following molecular composition:-PbO, 1; Zn O (or Al2 O3, Ca O, Mg O, BaO), 0.04 to 0.15; Si O2, 0.3 to 0.6; Li2 O (or aNa2O, K2O), 0.04 to 0.15; B2 O3, 0.23 to 0.35; colouring oxide 0 to 0.1. For making the enamel opaque, fluorides such as cryolite or calcium fluoride can be fused. with the material, or refractory oxides and salts of metals may be added during the powdering of the fused material.
