Abstract

Bolts, nuts and screws, screwing up.-An apparatus for screwing up nuts, bolts, studs or screws comprises a conical clutch-member A secured to a shaft B driven through bevel gearing J from a shaft J<1> rotated by a flexible shaft from an electric motor, and an external clutch-member C adapted at C' to receive a socket &c. for a box spanner or other tool. The clutch is normally engaged by a spring or springs D adjustable through a screwed sleeve F and may be disengaged by a hand lever O for applying fresh work. A ball or roller ratchet L operated by a lever L<1> provides for giving the work an additional turn after the clutch A slips. The outer clutchmember is closed by a screw I to form a reservoir for lubricant, grooves B<1>, A<1> being provided in the shaft and clutch to allow circulation. In a modification the clutch A may be engaged by hand and disengaged by a spring, the ratchet L being then dispensed with.
