Abstract

A security system with lockable hinged door mounted in a secure frame, prevents access to the foot pedals when locked, thus preventing theft of the vehicle and when unlocked gives unhibited access to the foot pedals by an authorized person. The system also permits the secure storage of valuables with in the foot pedal area when the security system is locked.

TECIMCAL FIELD

This invention relates to a Vehicle Security System which denies access to all foot pedal controls by mechanical means and also access to most interior bonnet release mechanisms.

BACK GROUND In order to secure a vehicle and prevent theft, if access is denied to all foot pedal controls and most bonnet release mechanisms, the vehicle cannot be driven, even if the ignition system is short circuited. Access beneath the bonnet is also denied. These factors combined severley restrict the removal/moving of the vehicle by unauthorized persons.

ESSENTICAL TECIMCAL FFWWES According to the present invention there is provided a lockable barrier preventing access to the foot pedals. When persons authorized to drive the vehicle wish to gain access to the foot pedals the barrier is removed by use of a security key which unlocks the barrier allowing it to hinge to the vehicle floor thus providing unhindered access to the foot pedals. The barrier in it's locked condition completely blocks the whole of the footwell area.

The hinged barrier is mounted on a secure frame, securely fixed to the vehicle in retrofit situation, or may in the original equipment situation be secured to sections of the vehicle body specifically constructed to carry and secure the barrier gate.

The security lock mechanically or electrically drives or removes draw bolts from the security frame or those parts of the vehicle body specifically constructed to receive the hinged barrier.

Claims

CLAIM

1) A highly visible lockable barrier closing off access to the footwell area on the drivers side of the vehicle thus preventing access to the foot pedals and not allowing the vehicle to be operated by unauthorized persons.

2) In use by the authorized driver the lockable hinged barrier forms part of the vehicle floor avoiding storage/access problem.

In use by authorized driver the security frame or specifically constructed body acting as the security frame does not impede access by the driver to the pedals or bonnet opening mechanism.

4) Easy to operate and being hinged does not require major physical effort to open/close.

5) In the closed and locked position, the device can be used as a secure vehicle safe for valuables.
