Abstract

232,953. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Patterson, F. W.). April 22, 1924, [Convention date]. Making lamps.-Both the rotatable heads 18 arranged for the operation of sealing stems into bulbs and the heads 33 for enabling the bulbs to be exhausted after the sealing-in operation are carried by a rotatable frame, and are arranged so that the operator can transfer a bulb directly from a head 18 to a head 33. The rotary member 36 of the valve of the exhausting-mechanism rotates with the spider 17 on which the holders 18 are mounted, and the holders 33 are mounted on the member 36. The heads 18 are rotated through friction clutches 27 by continuously rotating wheels 24, a catch being provided to hold the heads stationary while they are in the loading and transferring position. A fixed cam-track 45 imparts the necessary vertical movements to the stem-holders 23 during their travel around the machine, and a rotating cam 48 and links 47 impart these movements while the holder is at the loading position. The sealing heads may be provided with pull-down forks 21, as described in Specification 132,638, the sealing-off of the exhausted bulbs may be done manually or automatically as described in Specification 14361/06, and the bulbs may be exhausted either from the tip, as shown, or from the stem, as described in Specification 147,293. Specification 151,682 also is referred to.
