Abstract

A tool to assist bricklayers in the construction of masonry between steelwork columns comprises an upper body assembly (6) and lower body assembly (4). The lower body assembly clamps to a steelwork column, by mechanical, hydraulic or magnetic means and permits the setting of the tool at the required gauge line level. The upper body assembly allows the setting of the gauge line in plan relative to the column by means of an extending arm (2) which can translate horizontally. The upper body assembly also contains view points (5) to allow the accurate setting of the tool to the required gauge line level. The tool can be manufactured in graded sizes with extension accessories to cope with all commercially available steelwork serial sizes and shapes. The use of additional tools and/or extension facilities permit the setting out of multiple gauge lines where a number of masonry panels intersect at a column, or alternatively, where several panels are being constructed simultaneously between a line of columns.

Description

BRICKLAYERS COLUMN CLAMP TOOL Purpose This invention provides a tool to assist bricklayers in the construction of masonry between steelwork columns.
Detailed description of tool The tool comprises an upper and lower body assembly. The lower body assembly clamps the tool to the steelwork column and permits the setting of the tool at the required gauge line level. The upper body assembly allows the setting of the gauge line in plan relative to the column and also contains within it, view points in order to allow the accurate setting of the tool to the required gauge line level. The tool can be manufactured in graded sizes with extension accessories to cope with all commercially available steelwork serial sizes and shapes.
The tools are used in pairs, one to each opposing column between which the required masonry panel is constructed. A string line is then attached to each tool and the tools adjusted in level or position to achieve the necessary gauging line to construct the masonry.
The use of additional tools and/or extension facilities will permit the setting out of multiple gauge lines where a number of masonry panels intersect at a column, or alternatively, where several panels are being constructed simultaneously between a line of columns.
The invention attaches itself to the column using a pressure clamping arrangement which works by mechanical, hydraulic or magnetic means, sufficient to provide the necessary grip to the steelwork to overcome the effects of gravity and maintain the device on the gauge line.
The invention may be attached to either the flanged face of the column or to the flanges on the web side. Differing accessory attachments will permit the fixing of the invention to a variety of steelwork shapes, including; Universal Beams, Universal Columns, Joists, Channels, Equal Angles, Unequal Angles, Rolled Tees, Structural Tees cut from Universal beams or Universal Columns, Universal Bearing Piles, Castellated Sections, Circular Hollow Sections, Square Hollow Sections, Rectangular Hollow Sections, Compound Sections, Solid Sections and Plates.
Materials used in the manufacture of the tool The invention can be manufactured in metal, alloy, plastic or hard grained timber, The finish applied to the invention is dependent up on the material used but can be galvanised, epoxy painted, anodised or unfinished as appropriate.
Size of tool The invention can be manufactured in graded sizes to suit small, medium and large serial steelwork sizes. Extension pieces to the Datum bolt and extending arm to the upper body and to the extending arms of the lower body clamp, will facilitate the ability of the tool to cope with a variety of section sizes and shapes between the main graded sizes.
