Abstract
A tape measure has a top lip 12 180 above a bottom lip 10, made of same gauge material and fixed so that lips 10 and 12 are flush at the end. This facilitates handling of the end of the tape measure.
Description
PLASTER BOARD TAPE MEASURE
This invention relates to a tape measure used to score or mark plaster board or other flat sheets.
Retractable, spring loaded tape measures are commonly used to aid the cutting or marking of plasterboards or other flat sheets. This is achieved by holding the tape measure body in one hand, with the front of the index finger held underneath the required measurement on the tape and against the edge of the board. The other hand presses the end of the tape measure against a trimming knife or pencil between index finger and thumb using a downward pressure. Both hands and the tape measure are then draw down, or along, the edge, thus scoring or marking the required measurement onto the board.
Tape measures, however, make this practice difficult, and also suffer a relatively short life.
According to the present invention there is provided a top lip 180" above the bottom lip forming a 'T' shaped end to the tape measure.
The invention will now be described with reference to the following drawing in which
Figure 1 shows the tape measure.
Referring to figure 1, a top lip 12 is fixed 180 above bottom lip 10, either as two separate components or as one piece. The top lip 12 will enable the tool used for scoring or marking to be positively pressed against end of tape between index finger and thumb. Both lips will be of the same gauge material and be flush at the end when fixed.
Claims (1)
1 A tape measure used for scoring or marking plasterboards or other flat sheets
comprising a top lip fixed 1800 above the bottom lip to form a 'T' shaped end.
