AN APPARATUS FOR DISPLAYING A ROOM m(PBRATURI AND A BODY TEMPERATURE FOR A VIDEO DISPLAY APPLIANCE The present invention relates to an apparatus for displaying a room temperature and a body temperature for a video display appliance.
Generally, a video display appliance such as a television receiver has various built-in functions such as automatic channel selection, programmed on/off operation, automatic brightness control, main/sub-channel voice selection, etc., thereby providing convenience when viewing television.
Recently, with the trend towards multifunctional televisio other information concerning,eg. the user's circumstances is furnished. However, the ccnventional television receiver does not have such an informat2on providing function.
It is an object of the present invention to provide apparatus for displaying ambient temperature and/or body temperature on a video display appliance. The current room temperature and/or a users temperature can be selected by the user while viewing the television.
The invention is defined in the accompanying independent claims. Some preferred features are recited in the dependent claims.
In one form of the invention, there is provided an apparatus for displaying a room temperature and a body temperature for a video display appliance such as a television receiver, comprising: a function selection section, provided in a remote controller, for entering key signals for checking the room temperature and the body temperature during watching the television; a sensing section, provided in the remote controller, for sensing the room temperature and the body temperature in response to the key signals from the function selection section; a transmission section for transmitting sensed signals outputted from the sensing section to the video display appliance; a control section, provided in the video display appliance, for controlling data-processing of the sensed signals of the sensing section which are inputted through the transmission section; and a video output section for processing and displaying data of the sensed room temperature and body temperature on a display screen as an OSD under the control of the control section.
The above object, other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent by describing a preferred embodiment thereof with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a block diagram illustrating the construction of the apparatus for displaying room temperature and body temperature for a video display appliance according to the present invention; and FIG. 2 is a flow chart illustrating the method of displaying room temperature and body temperature for a video display appliance according to the present invention.
FIG. 1 is a block diagram of the apparatus for displaying a ambient temperature and a body temperature for a video display appliance according to the present invention. Referring to FIG.
1, a television receiver for displaying a video signal, and a remote controller for remotely controlling the function of the television receiver are provided.
In the remote controller, there are provided a function selection section 1 for selecting a mode for displaying room temperature and body temperature, a sensing section 2, having a transducer for sensing the room temperature and the body temperature in response to the mode selected through the function selection section 1, a storage section 3 for temporarily storing sensed signals of the room temperature and the body temperature outputted from the sensing section 2, and a transmission section 4 for transmitting the sensed signals of the room temperature and the body temperature stored in the storage section 3.
In the television receiver for displaying the video signal, a television receiving section 5 for selecting a channel signal received through eg. an antenna, a remote control receiving section 6 for receiving the sensed signals of the room temperature and the body temperature transmitted from the transmission section 4, a microcomputer 7 for controlling data processing of the sensed signals of the room temperature and the body temperature received through the remote control receiving section 6, and a video output section 8 for video-processing the channel signal selected and outputted from the television receiving section 5 and data of the sensed room temperature and the body temperature outputted from the microcomputer 7.
The microcomputer 7 comprises a data processing section 7A for receiving and data-processing the sensed signals of the room temperature and the body temperature received through the remote control receiving section 6, a control section 7B for controlling the operation of the data processing section 7A, and a display control section 7C for transferring the data of the room temperature and the body temperature processed through the data processing section 7A to the video output section 8 so as to display the data of the room temperature and the body temperature on the screen as an OSD under the control of the control section 7B.
FIG. 2 is a flow chart illustrating the method of displaying a room temperature and a body temperature for a video display appliance according to the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 2, the method according to the present invention comprises the steps of determining whether or not a mode of sensing the room temperature and the body temperature is selected during an 'on' state of the television, keeping a television mode if the sensing mode is not detected as a result of determination, while sensing the room temperature and the body temperature and transmitting corresponding sensed signals to the television receiver if the sensing mode is selected, receiving and converting the sensed signals of the room temperature and the body temperature into temperature data of Celsius (*C) or Fahrenheit (-F), and converting the temperature data into a digital or analog form according to a user's preference or selection, determining whether or not a display release signal is inputted during the display of the temperature data, and erasing the temperature data displayed on the screen and returning to the television mode if the display release signal is inputted as a result of determination, while erasing the temperature data displayed on the screen after a predetermined time elapses and returning to the television mode if the display release signal is not inputted.
The operation of the present invention will be explained in detail with reference to FIGs. 1 and 2.
Referring to FIGs. 1 and 2, if the user turns on the power to view the television, the television receiving section 5 selects a desired broadcast or cable channel signal and provides the selected channel signal to the video output section 8, so that the user can view the programme displayed on the screen.
While viewing the television, if the user selects the mode for sensing the room temperature and his/her temperature by manipulating the function selection section 1 provided in the remote controller, the sensing section 2 senses the room temperature and the user's temperature.
The sensing section 2 may comprise infrared or direct temperature sensors. The signals sensed by the sensing section 2 are temporarily stored in the storage section 4 comprising a RAM (random access memory), and then transmitted to the remote control receiving section 6 in the television receiver through the transmission section 4.
The remote control receiving section 6 in the television receiver provides the sensed signal, which is transmitted from the remote controller, to the microcomputer 7. The data processing section 7A and the display control section 7C provided in the microcomputer 7 data-process and convert the input sensed signal so as to display the sensed signal as an OSD. The operations of the data processing section 7A and the display control section 7C are controlled by the control section 7B. The control section also controls the display time and the display type of the sensed room temperature and body temperature, i.e., whether the display is performed in the digital or analog form.
Specifically, the data processing section 7A in the microcomputer 7 converts the unit of the sensed signal, which is received through the remote control receiving section 6, into Fahrenheit (-F) or Celsius for the user's understanding, and controls the display of the converted signal in a digital or analog form according to the user's taste. The display control section 7C provides the data converted by the data processing section 7A to the video output section 8 under the control of the control section 7B, so that the room temperature and the body temperature are displayed on the screen of the television receiver. The temperature may be displayed within the video image or in place of it.
If the user actuates a display release key in the function selection section 1 provided in the remote controller to release the sensed mode, the room temperature and the body temperature, which are displayed by the OSD on the television screen, are erased from the screen, and the television mode is returned to view the television programme signal received.
Meanwhile, if the user does not actuate the display release key the room temperature and the body temperature displayed by the OSD are erased from the screen after a predetermined time elapses under the control of the display control section 7C in the microcomputer 7, and the television mode is returned to view the television signal.
As described above, according to the present invention, if the mode of sensing the room temperature and the body temperature is selected through the function selection section provided in the remote controller while viewing the television, the sensed room temperature and body temperature are displayed by the OSD on the screen, thereby providing convenience for a user.
While the present invention has been described and illustrated herein with reference to the preferred embodiment thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
