Abstract

A hair curling tong heater has a housing 1 which includes an electrically heated chamber 2 and a plurality of tong storage chambers 5,6, optionally of different sizes, in which heated tongs may be stored. An external tong support 9 may be fixed to the casing and a temperature control 7 included.

Description

CURLING TONG APPARATUS The present invention relates to curling tong apparatus and more particularly to a heater for heating curling tongs.
A known type of curling tong heater comprises a housing in which is located an electrical heating arrangement and a chamber adapted to accomodate the operative end of a curling tong, the heating chamber being accessed through an aperture in the front of the housing.
The present invention is concerned with providing a curling tong heating apparatus which is more versatile and convenient to use than prior art devices.
According to the present invention a curling tong heater comprises a housing having a heating chamber into which a tong to be heated may be inserted, the housing containing an electrical heating arrangement associated with the heating chamber, the housing also having a plurality of tong storage chambers/holders accessible through an equal plurality of apertures in the front of the housing whereby tongs to be heated may be stored or held.
How the invention may be carried out will be now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the single figure of the drawing which is a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention.
The curling tong heater comprises a housing 1 which is fabricated from sheet metal. A heating chamber 2 is located within the housing 1 and is accessible through an aperature 3 formed in the front of the housing 1. An electrical heating arrangement (not shown) is located within the housing 1 and associated with the heating chamber 2.
A support, 4, in the form of a metal rod or tube, is mounted on the front 1 a of the housing.
The sides of the housing 1 are provided with cooling louvres Ib.
As an optional feature the housing 1 has mounted on one of its sides a channel section stand 9 which in the embodiment shown in the drawing is mounted on the left hand side of the housing as viewed from the front. However it could also be mounted on the right hand side or there could be such a stand on each side of the housing.
The front of the housing la is provided with a rotary control knob 7 by which the heating arrangement can be controlled to give a number of different levels of heating. A warning lamp 8 is also provided.
A key feature of the present invention is the provision of a plurality of storage chambers 5,6, located within the housing 1 and accessible by corresponding aperatures in the front panel la of the housing.
In the embodiment illustrated these storage chambers are of circular cross-section and are arranged in two rows 5 and 6 respectively, the row 5 being of a larger cross section than those of the row 6. These cross sections are designed to accommodate different sizes of cooling tong.
A typical cooling tong is of scissor-like construction having two pivotally interconnected members, each member having a handle portion, the other end being the operative part of the tong. In the case of one member the operative end consists of an arcuate member in which a cylindrical member on the other limb of the scissor-like construction is adapted to nest when the tongs are closed. Typically a set of tongs is used in which the cross-sectional sizes of the operative ends of the tongs are different.
In the embodiment illustrated a typical curling tong 1 Oa is illustrated, in broken lines, in the heating position in which its' operative end is within the heating chamber 2 and its handles are supported on the support 4.
As indicated earlier the chambers 5 and 6 are used to store a number of tongs, a typical example being indicated in broken lines at lOb. The chambers 5 and 6 thus enable the user to keep the set of tongs tidy.
The support 9 can be used to support a curling tong, for example after its' operative end has been heated, a typical curling tong in this position being indicated at 1 Oc.
The advantages of the curling tong heater of the present invention are that as well as providing the actual heating chamber 2 it provides storage for a set of tongs, it enables the operative ends of the tongs to be heated without their handles becoming hot and it enables the amount of heating to be controlled by means of a temperature regulator.
Variations may be made to the design illustrated without departing from the scope of the present invention. For example the number of storage chambers 5 and 6 could be varied as could their size and cross-section. The housing may also be of a different construction from the sheet metal fabrication illustrated.

Claims (7)

1. A curling tong heater comprises a housing having a heating chamber into which a tong to be heated may be inserted, the housing containing an electrical heating arrangement associated with the heating chamber, the housing also having a plurality of tong storage chambers holders accessible through an equivalent plurality of apertures in the front of the housing whereby tongs to be heated or which have been heated may be stored or held.
2. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1 in which the said plurality of storage chambers and their associated access apertures comprise at least two sizes/cross sections which are adapted to hold tongs having different size curling members.
3. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 2 in which there are two rows of said aperatures/storage chambers, the apertures/storage chambers in one row being of a first size and those in the second row being of a second size.
4. Apparatus as claimed in any previous claim having an external curling tong support mounted on the housing and extending from the front of the housing in the vicinity of the entrance to the heating chamber in order to support the handle of a tong to be heated.
5. Apparatus as claimed in any previous claim having an external curling tong support mounted on the side of the housing.
6. Apparatus as claimed in any previous claim in which the heating arrangement is controllable my a manual regulator carried by the housing whereby the degree of heating provided by the heating chamber can be varied by the user.
7. A curling tong heating apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
