Abstract
A fire escape ladder comprises rigid sections pivotally connected to each other and a mounting member for mounting the ladder over a window sill or parapet or the like. The ladder folds up when not in use. Preferably the mounting member is adjustable to fit over varying sizes of parapet, the rigid sections have sleeves which slide over the pivotal areas to hold the ladder rigid when in use and the ladder has spacers to keep the ladder away from the wall. The adjustable mounting member may comprise telescopic tubes.
Description
FIRESCAPE - DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a top hung or mounted ladder.
It can be used by persons in an elevated position to gain descent to a lower level or ground.
It can also be used, when extended with locking sleeves in position, by a person to ascend to a higher level by hooking on top of the base of any high level aperture or parapet etc..
It folds into a manageable size when not in use.
It has provision at the top fixing arms to adjust to a variety of fixed securing points.
SHEET 1 Shows;
A- Front elevation ladder erected with gravity sleeves
locking the joints.
B- Side elevation as A.
C- Side elevation folded with gravity sleeves lifted
clear of joints and top arms folded laterally.
The device can be constructed from any suitable material and out of any suitable section.
Claims (5)
1. A compact ladder, folds up when not in use.
2. Has a locked set screw type of double swivel at the points of
folding.
3. When in use, gravity tubes descend or slide over the double
swivel joints and lock or retain them, thereby rendering the
whole structure rigid and free from twist.
4. Supporting wall legs are incorporated.
5. At the top, single swivels are fitted - so that securing arms
will swing laterally inwards when the ladder is in its folded
form.
Provision is made on the securing arms at the top to extend
the arms to accomodate varying widths by use of an inner
member sliding in or out of an outer member, secured in the
chosen position by matching holes in inner and outer, locked
with a pin or pins.
