Abstract

231,158. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Wood, L. A. S.). March 24, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Street !amps.-A street lamp is provided with a refractor for directing the major portion of the light in a downward direction and for intensifying the light in two or more directions, the refractor comprising inner and outer transparent members 16, 17. The outer surface of the inner member 16 is provided with coaxial circular prisms 18 decreasing in size towards the centre which is left plain, and the inner surface of the outer member 17 is provided with longitudinal prisms 19 which decrease in size towards plain portions arranged according to the paths along which the light is to be concentrated. The refractor, which may be of frusto-conical, spherical or other form, is provided at its upper end with a flange which is supported by a metal ring 12 mounted on uprights attached to the base 3 or suspended from brackets 11 attached to the canopy 2. and a screwed metal collar 23 on the inner member 16 bears, through the intermediary of a washer 25, against a flange 21 on the outer member 17. Conical reflectors 6, 9 are, arranged below and above the refractor to reflect part of the light outwardly.
