Abstract

231,070. Baer, C. J. Aug. 6, 1924. Scouring-apparatus.-For a dredging of or cutting a channel in a stream of running water a number of selfpropelled dredging or dam units B<1> - - B<7> are secured to a boat A so as to confine the water to a restricted path. and some of the units are adapted to scrape or loosen the surface of the bed' of the stream within the confines of the path. The units B<1> - - B<7> are preferably transported to the dredging site upon the boat A which has an unobstructed deck. Each unit B<1>, &c., Fig. 8, is equipped with tractor elements 39 by which it is adapted to be driven through the water or to crawl along the bed of the stream, and is provided with verticallv and laterallv adjustable deflecting plates 55 - - 60 which can be projected beyond the end of the body of the unit so as to overlap similar plates of other units. Spurs 40<1>, 10 for scraping the bed of the stream are provided on the links 40 of the tractor elements 39, preferably only on those units B<1>, B<2>, B', Fig. 1, which are situated within the confines of the, restricted path. Deflecting plates 9, 12 which assist to direct the silt-laden water from the channel are hinged near the bow of the boat A and are adapted to be swung outwardly by the propelling motor of the boat. These defecting plates preferably comprise hollow plates filled with cork or like buoyant material. The boat A and units B<1>, &c., are provided with flooding compartments for varying their displacements and are held together, as in Fig. 1, by rigid bars. 83, 86.
