Chain - wheels. - In gearing wherein a driving-chain of the silent type has tooth faces c formed behind the joint pins in addition to the usual tooth faces b, d on the front side, whereby the chain is enabled to gear with sprocket wheels on both faces, a sprocket wheel adapted to engage the rear side of the chain comprises a number of toothed discs g, h, Fig. 3, secured together so that the teeth in adjacent rows are staggered, the pitch of the teeth on each disc being twice that of the teeth of the wheel engaging the front side of the chain.
