Abstract

The bicycle lock consists of a lock that will fit to the front wheel hub by covering the front wheel nuts and then passing through the wheel spokes and being locked into position. This ensures that both the detachable front wheel and the bicycle as a whole are secure.

Description

BICYCLE LOCK This invention relates to a biq cle lock Bicycle locks are a necessity for security of what is often an expensive mode of transport Most modern bicycles incorporate a mechanism on the front wheel to enable the wheel to be released quickly for ease of maintenance.
This however is an ideal "weak spot" for potential thieves as even if the bicycle Is securely locked the thief can release the front wheel and this is often an expensive item in itself.
This invention incorprates a lock that will disable the entire bicycle but at the same time ensures that the front wheel is also secure. A bicycle frame mountable lock carrier is also included for easy transpoflatica Figure 1 shows the lock padlock together as it would be when fitted.
IiWure 2 shows the lock separated into two pieces showing the hole through which a padlock can be fitted.
Figure 3 shows the lock in position on the front wheel hub of a bicycle.
FyCures 4 & S show the different types of locldng device that can be used to secure the lock in position Figure 6 shows the carrier which can be secured to the bicycle fiMie for easy transportation.
Figure 7 shows the lock fitted onto the carrier.
Refemng to the illustrations the bicycle lock is fitted through the front wheel spokes and the hollow ends a & k fit over the exii wheel nuts on the bicycle front wheel hub.
The two ends c & d interlock and are secured together either through g, a hole drilled through the metal and a padlock fitted as shown in Figure 4 or by the use of a combination lock as shown in Figure 5.
The whole lock fits onto the ca2rier Figure 6 inexactly the same way as it fits onto the bicycle wheel hub, by being clamped into position onto identically spaced nuts. The carrier is fixed to the frame ofthe bicycle.

CLAIMSS
1 This bicycle lock incorporates a lock that will disable the entire bicycle but at the same time ensures that the front wheel is also secure. A bicycle fiame mountable lock carrier is also included for easy transportation.
2 The bicycle lock as claimed in Claim 1 ensures that the lock cannot be tampered with as the majority of the lock and especially the locking device is protected by tube spokesontheacuatwbeeL Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Claims 1) A bicycle lock arranged to be fitted through the spokes of the bicycle front wheel, the bicycle lock having two members and means for securing said members together with hollow ends of said members fitted over respective wheel nuts of the bicycle front wheel hub.
2) A bicycle lock as claimed in claim 1, in which said two members slide together and said securing means comprises a padlock for insertion through aligned holes in said two members.
3) A bicycle lock as claimed in claim 1, in which said securing means comprises a combination lock.
4) A bicycle lock substantially as herein described with reference to Figures 1 to 4 or Figure 5 of the accompanying drawings.
