Abstract

A device for monitoring visitors to a building eg hospitals, comprises a badge 1 worn by the visitor that emits or reflects infrared radiation, the radiation being monitored by a camera or detector 2. The radiation may be digitally coded and operate in combination with radio or audio signals. The device may activate a visual or audible alarm 4.

Description

VISITOR IDENTIFICATION THIS INVENTION RELATES TO IDENTIFYING AUTHORISED VISITORS TO GROUNDS OR PREMISES WHERE BASIC Oi ESSENTIAL SECURITY IS REQUIRED.
MANY BUILDINGS HAVE SO MANY STAFF, TEMPORARY OR OTHER, MOVING AROUND THE PREMISES MAKING SECURITY DIFFICULT TO ORGANISE, AND WHEN VISITORS ARE PRESENT THE SITUATION IS MUCH WORSE.
ALTHOUGH VISITORS ARE OFTEN SIGNED IN AND GIVEN A BADGE BY A RECEPTIONIST. THE SECURITY THEREAFTER RELIES UFON SECURITY STAFF VERY OFTEN USING CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION MONITORING SYSTEMS (C.C.T.V.) IT THEN BECOMES DIFFICULT TO ASSESS GENUINE VISITORS.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION VISITORS ARE INSTANTLY RECOGNISED, ESPECIALLY WHERE C.C.T.V.
K VIRTUALLY ANY OTHER CAMERA SYSTEM IS USED.
THE INVENTION MAKES USE OF LIGHT WAVELENGTHS NORMALLY INVISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE, MAKING DUPLICATION DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE.
THE WAVELENGTH EMITTED FROM THE INVENTION. OR REFLECTED FROM THE INVENTION, IN THE INFRARED HREH OF THE LIGHT SPECTRUM, WILL BE SEEN AS h CLEAR WHITE BEAM TOA CAMERA/DEVICE SENSITIVE TO INFRARED WAVELENGTHS BUT OTHER WAVELENGTHS MAY BE USED.
THE BEAM EMITTED FROM THE INVENTION MAY BE CODED DIGITAL OR OTHER, TO ALLOW CONFIRMATION. OR ACTIVATION OF EQUIPMENT SENSITIVE TO SUCH BEAMS AND/OR CODES.
rHE INVENTION MAY THE ANY FORM, INCLUDING A BADGE.
NECKWEAR OR WRISTBAND.
THE INVENTION MAY INCLUDE ULTRASOUND OR RADIO SIGNALS FOR MULTIPLE SECURITY APPLICATIONS.
THE INVENTION MAY HAVE A CONTINUOUS/PULSED OR CODED BEAM EMITTED, ELECTRONICALLY OR OTHERWISE DERIVED.
THE INVENTION MHy BE ACTIVATED AND/OR RESPONSIVE TO OTHER DEVICES.
THE INVENTION MAY Y BE H REFLECTOR, THUS REFLECTING SUCH CODES OR BEAMS TRANSMITTED TO THE INVENTION.
THE INVENTION MAY BE A COMBINATION OF REFLECTIVE AND EMITTER COMPONENTS.
AN EXAMPLE OF OPERATION WILL NOW FOLLOW, USING THE INVENTION IN ITS SIMPLEST FORM WITH REFERENCE TO FIG (1) THIS EXAMPLE IS SITUATED IN A MATERNITY WARD OF A HOSFITAL. USING A SIMPLE INFRARED SENSITIVE CAMERA (2) AND MONITOR (3) SYSTEM WITH THE INVENTION BEING A BADGE (1) EMITTING A PULSED INFRARED BEAM.
AT THE ENTRANCE AND/OR EXIT OF THE WARD IS A DEVICE SENSITIVE TO THE PULSED INFRARED SIGNAL EMITTED BY THE INVENTION.
A VISITOR ARRIVES AT THE WARD WHEREBY IDENTIFICATION AND/OR SIGNING IN IS FOLLOWED BY THE VISITOR HAVING A BADGE (1) (THE INVENTION) ATTACHED TO HIS/HER CLOTHING. WHILST THE VISITOR IS IN THE WHRD A CHANGE OF STAFF TAKES PLACE, AND THE STAFF MEMBER NOW IN CONTROL OF THE DOOR LOCK SYSTEM. WILL NOT BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY OR RECOGNISE THE VISITOR, THE VISITOR NOW DECIDES TO LEAVE THE PREMISES AND APPROACHES THE DOOR, THE STAFF MEMBER MAY NOW LOOK AT THE MONITOR (3) AND CON SEE INSTANTLY THHT THE VISITOR IS AUTHORISED BY OBSERVING THE FLASHING LIGHT SHOWN BY THE INVENTION (1). SHOULD THE VISITOR ATTEMPT TO LEAVE WITHOUT HANDING IN THE BADGE. A DEVICE (4) SENSITIVE TO THE PULSED SIGNAL/DATA TRANSMITTED BY THE INVENTION, WILL GIVE A VISUAL AND/OR AUDIBLE ALARM. ALERTING THE STAFF AND/OR THE VISITOR.
THE BADGE (1) MAf ALSO OPERATE ANY COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR SECURITY OR ENERGY SAVING FUNCTIONS.
THE BADGE (1) MAY ALSO OPERATE ANY ELECTRONIC OR MECHANICAL OR ELECTROMECHANICAL SECURITY OR ENERGY SAVING DEVICE.
