Abstract
The present invention discloses flexible-walled container closing devices comprising a flexible body 10 having an aperture 20 and radial slits 30 extending outwardly from the aperture. The body has a raised outer wall 40.
Description
BAG TIE
The present invention concerns devices for closing flexible-walled containers, in particular bags.
Various methods and devices are available to close containers, in particular bags, which involve using strings or mechanically sprung devices to bring the walls of the container together. These are costly and inconvenient.
The present invention provides simple, convenient and inexpensive devices for closing flexible-walled containers, in particular bags.
According to the present invention there is provided a flexible-walled container closing device comprising a flexible body having an aperture and radial slits extending outwardly from the aperture.
The flexible body may be a flexible plastic or a rubber.
The flexible body may be circular or rectangular in shape, or it may be of any other desired shape.
The flexible body may have a raised outer rim. The outer wall may act to give the flexible body a rigid shape and may act to prevent any damage to the slits from extending the slits such that the device is unable to hold the flexible-walled container.
The aperture may be centrally located in the flexible body, although it may of course be located at any desired position.
The radial slits may extend at least half-way between the aperture and the outer edge ofthe flexible body.
The radial slits may be of equal length.
The device may comprise at least two slits. It may, for example, comprise 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 slits.
The slits may be equi-angularly spaced.
The flexible-walled container may be a bag.
The invention will be further apparent from the following description and figures which show, by way of example only, one form of flexible-walled contained closing device. of the figures:
Figure 1 shows a plan view of a flexible-walled container closing
device; and
Figure 2 shows a cross-sectional view on the line II-II of Figure 1.
The flexible-walled container closing device comprises a flexible body 10 having an aperture 20 and radial slits 30 extending outwardly from the aperture 20.
The flexible body 10 comprises a flexible plastic. It is circular in shape, having a raised outer rim 40.
The aperture 20 is centrally located in the flexible body 10
The radial slits 30, which are of equal length and which are equi-angularly spaced, extend at least half-way between the aperture 20 and the outer edge of the flexible body 10.
The device has six radial slits 30.
The flexible-walled container (not shown) is a bag.
The bag is placed through the aperture 20 and the bag tie lowered down the bag. As it is lowered down the bag, the flexible body 10 bends outwardly at the slits 30, allowing the bag easy passage through the aperture20. Once a desired amount ofthe bag has passed through the aperture 20, the bag tie device may be released and it will then hold the bag closed, preventing any spillage of the bag's contents.
Claims (12)
1. A flexible-walled container closing device comprising a flexible body having an aperture and radial slits extending outwardly from the aperture.
2. A device according to claim 1 wherein the flexible body comprises a flexible plastic or a rubber.
3. A device according to either one of claims 1 or 2 wherein the flexible body is circular or rectangular in shape.
4. A device according to any one ofthe preceding claims wherein the flexible body has an outer wall.
5. A device according to claim 4 wherein the outer wall is raised.
6. A device according to any one ofthe preceding claims wherein the aperture is centrally located in the flexible body.
7. A device according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the radial slits extend at least half-way between the aperture and the outer edge of the flexible body.
8. A device according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the radial slits are of equal length.
9. A device according to any one of the preceding claims wherein it comprises at least two slits.
10. A device according to claim 9 wherein it comprises 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 slits.
11. A device according to any one ofthe preceding claims wherein the slits are equi-angularly spaced.
12. A device according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the flexible-walled container is a bag.
