is A MULTT INPUT DEVICE 2302429 The present invention relates to a multi
input device, and more particularly, relates to a multi input device populated with a flat-panel display or a flat-panel input device on a keyboard of a computer which can input symbols or numbers.
Generally an input device of a computer includes; a keyboard populated with character keys, number keys, special keys, or a mouse that chooses desired operations after moving coordinate values on a plane and changing the location of a curser, or a digitizer decoding coordinates of a diagram after symbolizing a portrait or a shape and changing it to digital data, etc.
And, in order to choose the options of a display screen by utilizing an electronic pen or finger, a flat panel input device is used.
Therefore, the input device of a computer is designed to perform desired commands or use inputted data and run respective selected operations by utilizing a keyboard.
So the prior keyboard to input commands or data to a computer has the problem that it is limited to only function as an input device.
And, because the user must separately type in the keyboard and input desired data or commands in the keyboard 1 of the prior art, the speed of operating a keyboard becomes slow and consequently, the speed of using a computer or the speed of processing data strikingly decreases, especially when the user,s typing is slow or if the user is not accustomed to the location of the keys on a keyboard.
Accordingly, for the user who is not accustomed to using a keyboard or with choosing commands more quickly, the inputting device, often called a touch panel, which does not input respective commands by utilizing a keyboard, but performs them after choosing corresponding commands by utilizing a mouse, digitizer, finger, or an electronic pen was invented and is being used.
The technique like the above-mentioned is shown in 'PERSONAL SCANNER/ COMPUTER FOR DISPLAYING SHOPPING LISTS AND SCANNING BARCODES TO AID SHOPPERS' in the American Patent Application Number 5,424,524 and 'PORTABLE WORK STATION AND DATA COLLECTION TERMINAL INCLUDING SWITCHABLE MULTI PURPOSE TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY' in the American Patent Application Number 5,488,575.
But, although the input device of the above-mentioned technique can improve the convenience to the users, its function is limited.
Namely, there is a problem that, because commands or data displayed on the flat panel input device are chosen by an electronic pen or fingers and are inputted, desired commands or data must be inputted through the keyboard of the prior art and a variety of data, so to speak, graphic data, memo data, sketch data, and signature data and so on
2 must be inputted through another input device.
In addition, there is also another problem that, its display device being used in order to display input commands or data, the flat panel input device inside the display device cannot perform the function as a display device fully.
3 is Accordingly, the purpose of the present invention is to solve the above mentioned problem in the prior art and its object is to provide a multi input device by which a variety of data can be inputted by designing the flat panel input device on some part of the input device which has a keyboard to input data or commands, and data can be inputted and outputted by designing a display device being in one with a flat panel input device.
To achieve the above object, the present invention comprises a power source section which supplies a power source to a keyboard control section and a flat panel input control section necessary for the operation; a keyboard control section which outputs the data inputted by the user and performs the operation for processing data after performing the control operation when corresponding power source is permitted from the above mentioned power source section; in the input device comprising a keyboard which inputs the data inputted according to the action of the user to the above mentioned keyboard control section, a flat-panel input control section which outputs the data chosen by the user and performs operations for processing data after performing the controlling operation when a corresponding power source is permitted from the above mentioned power source section; the flat-panel inputting device which inputs the data chosen according to the action of the user to the above mentioned flat-panel input control section.
4 The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG.1 is a plane view of a multi input device according to an embodiment of the present invention; FIG.2 is a plane view of a multi input device according to another embodiment of the present invention; FIG.3 is a block diagram of a multi input device according to the embodiment of the present invention; and FIG.4 is a block diagram of a multi input device according to another embodiment of the present invention.
is With reference to FIG.3, the structure of the embodiment of the present invention comprises the power source section 10; the keyboard control section 11 and a flat panel input control section 12 which outputs the data chosen by the user performing the controlling operation to a central controlling device(not shown) and processes the data chosen by the user when a corresponding power source is permitted from the power source section 10; an input device 100 which is controlled by the above mentioned keyboard control section 11 and the above mentioned flat panel input control section 12, and performs the inputting operation of corresponding data or commands.
The above mentioned input device 100 comprises a keyboard 13 which is changed to a possible state of operation according to the controlling operation of the above mentioned keyboard controlling section 11 and performs the inputting operation of data or special keys by the user; and a flat panElinput section 14 which inputs the data inputted by the user to a central control device(not drawn) through the flat panel input control section 12.
The above-mentioned flat panel input section 14 comprises a touch panel or a digitizer input device for displaying coordinates which recognizes the input data by the input operation by an electronic pen or fingers.
The operation in accordance with the embodiment of the present invention formed like the above mentioned is as following.
FIG.1 and FIG.2 illustrate that the flat panel input 6 is section 14 which utilizes a digitizer or an electronic pen or f ingers and inputs data or commands is populated in a keyboard 13 populating symbols, numbers, and special keys.
Therefore, because the flat panel input section 14, utilizing a digitizer or an electronic pen or fingers, whose use is very easy and convenient is populated in the keyboard 13 which is the main input device, symbols or numbers to be inputted can be inputted through the flat panel input control section 12 by another hand which is not being used after the commands to be performed is chosen through the flat panel input section 14.
So, because the keyboard 13 and the flat panel input section 14 can be used together like in the above manner, the user who is accustomed to using a keyboard can use the keyboard as a main input device and perform the input operation of symbols or numbers through the flat panel input section 14 as a subsidiary input device; and the user who is not accustomed to using a keyboard can use the flat panel input section 14 as the main input device.
For example, when the user is accustomed to the keyboard, he can perform inputting signals through the keyboard 13 and perform inputting in case of confirmation, correction, editing, and signing of documents. But, when the user is not accustomed to the keyboard, he can perform inputting data by an electronic pen or fingers.
Consequently, when a sufficient power source is supplied by the operation of the power source section 10 the keyboard controlling section 11 and the flat panel input 7 control section 13 begins operations and performs chosen commands or processes the inputted data to a control processing device(not shown) when a user inputs data, commands or symbols to the keyboard 13 or the flat panel input section 14 in the input device 100.
To the further convenience of the user, in another embodiment, a flatpanel display 15 comprising a liquid crystal display is additionally populated in the input device 110 as described in Fig 4.
Consequently, the data inputted through the keyboard 13 or the flat panel input section 14 can be illustrated and the subsidiary outputting device to output the data originated during the operation of a computer or the data originated after the processing operation has been completed can be used.
Therefore, the user can easily recognize whether the data being inputted or the chosen operation is right or not, and can perform a variety of functions by utilizing one device.
The effect of this invention operating as in the above is that, because not only the input operation of the data which utilizes a keyboard as the input device of a computer, but also the flat panel input device which utilizes an electronic pen or a digitizer or fingers can be used and the convenience to the user is increased.
Because the flat panel display device is used as a multi-input and output device performing a variety of functions, the amount of space needed to perform such task 8 by an instrument is drastically decreased.

Claims (1)
1. A multi input device, in a input device which comprises:
a power source section supplying the necessary power source to operation; a keyboard control section performing the processing operation of the data by outputting the data chosen by the user after the controlling operation is perfo=ed when the corresponding power source is permitted by said power source section; and a keyboard, inputting the data chosen by the user,s operation to the keyboard controlling section by the control operation of said keyboard controlling section, comprising:
a flat panel input control device which performs the processing operation of the data by outputting the data chosen by the user after performing the controlling operation when the corresponding power source is permitted in the above- mentioned section of a power source; and a flat panel input device which inputs the data chosen by the user,s operation by the control operation of said flat panel input control device.
2. The multi input device as defined in claim 1, wherein, said input device further comprises the flat panel display which outputs data.
3. The multi input device as defined in claim 2, wherein, said flat panel display has a flat board with a liquid crystal.
4. The multi input device as defined in claim 2 or 3, wherein:
said flat panel display is unified with the abovementioned flat panel input device.
5. The multi input device as defined in any preceding claim, wherein, said input device of a flat panel display includes a digitizer and an input device for displaying coordinates.
6. The multi input device as defined in any preceding claim, wherein, said plane input device operates by utilizing an said symbols, 8. preceding said electronic pen or a normal pen.
7. The multi input device as defined in any preceding claim, wherein: flat panel input device receives data of notes, sketch, memo, picture, and signatures. The multi input device as defined in any claim, wherein, flat panel input device uses a touch panel which inputs commands by bringing fingers into contact with the corresponding location of the message of a display screen.
9. A multi-input device substantially as described herein, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
