Abstract
An underground cable chamber is made of glass fibre reinforced resin and additionally includes a steel mesh which is incorporated while the material is still wet. This allows for the chamber to be drilled for duct and pipe laying with several holes close together without weakening the chamber. The incorporation of the steel mesh also gives the chamber extra load resistance against overhead traffic and side bulging.
Description
STEEL MESH REINFORCED G.R.P. UNDERGROUND CABLE CHAMBER THIS INVENTION RELATES TO THE CONSTRUCTION METHOD OF G. R. P. UNDERGROUND CABLE CHAMBERS BY THE INCORPORATON OF
A SPECIALLY DESIGNED STEEL MESH.
GRP UNDERGROUND CABLE CHAMBERS HAVE BEEN USED IN THE TELECOIXUNICATIONS FIELD FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, THE BASIC
LAY UP OF THE CHAMBERS CONSISTS OF FIBREGLASS XATT AND
RESIN A BASIC LAMINATION PROCESS.
HOWEVER ADDED STRENGTH AND OVERALL GRID EFFECT CAUSED BY
THE INCORPORATION OF THE STEEL MESH WILL BE OF GREAT
ADVANTAGE TO THE CHAMBERS AS DRILLING BY DUCT AND CABLE
LAYING CAN GREATLY WEAKEN THE STRENGTH OF THE CHAMBER.
THE NEV CONSTRUCTION METHOD WILL BE GLASSFIBRE MATT AND
RESIN VHICH WILL NOW BE REINFORCED WITH A SPECIALLY
DESIGNED STEEL MESH WHICH HAS BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THE
LAMINATION PROCESS. THIS THEN PRODUCES A GRID EFFECT
ENABLING SEVERAL DUCT HOLES TO BE DRILLED CLOSE TOGEATHER
WITHOUT WEAKENING THE CHAMBERS OVERALL STRENGTH.

Claims (1)
- CLAIM(1)THE INCORPORATION OF THE STEEL MESS INTO THE GLASS FIBRE MATT WHEN WET PRODUCESS THE EFFECT OF INDIVIDUALLY LAMINATED SOUARES, THIS INTERN GIVES OVERAL STRENGTH TO THE CHAMBER (2) THE STEEL MESS IS DESIGNED TO PRODUCE A GRID EFFECT IN THE CHAMBER WHICH IS COMPATIBLE VITH THE DUCT PIPE WHICH IS TO BE FITTED IN TO THE CHAMBER BY DRILLING.(3) THE SQUARES IN THE STEEL MESH WtLL ALLOW FOR THE CHAXBER TO BE DRILLED WITH SEVERL DUCT HOLES CLOSE TOGEATHER WITH OUT LOSS OF ITS OVERALL STRENGTH.(4) THE INCORPORATION OF THE STEEL MESH IN THE CABLE CHAMBER GIVES EXTRA LOAD RESISTANCE WHICH INCLUDES DOWN PRESSURE FROM OVER HEAD TRAFFIC, AND MORE RESISTANCE TO SIDE BULGING. ALLOWING THE BOX TO KEEP TO ITS ORIGINAL SHAPE AFTER BEING BACK FILLED WITH CONCRETE.OR RUBBLE.
