Abstract
A Battery Operated Hair Dryer is a totally portable self contained unit with a high capacity rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium Battery incorporated within the Handle. The Battery is easily removed. It supplies the power to the Hair Dryer through an Amplifier/Rectifier Circuit located within the Hair Dryer Body. Charging the Battery is achieved using the Rapid Charger Transformer Unit. The mains voltage is fed directly through the Rapid Charge Transformer Unit and onto the Battery/Hair Dryer Stand enabling the Batteries to be charged for use. This unit also enables spare Batteries to be charged at the same time.
Description
BATTERY OPERATED HAIR DRYER
TECHNICAL
FIELD
This invention relates to a Battery Operated Hair Dryer.
BACKGROUND - Hair Dryers are well known Electrical Apparatus used in
both Domestic and Commercial environments. They are
always mains powered, making their use thereof totally
dependant on the availability of both power and a
compatible power supply point. The length of the power
supply cable ensures that their use is purely localised
around the mains supply point.
Hair Dryers are however, relatively in-expensive.
More-over their use in terms of portability is very
limited. Usage abroad falls into this category in two
areas, non - compatability of power supply and non
compatibility of the electrical supply sockets negating
their usage.
ESSENTIAL
TECHNICAL
FEATURES
According to the present invention there is provided a totally portable self contained Hair Dryer unit with its own power supply by way of a high capacity rechargeable nicol cadmium battery. This is located at the rear of the Hair Dryer handle. This battery unit is easily removed. It supplies the power to the Hair Dryer through the Amplifier/Rectifier Circuit which is located within the Hair Dryer body. The Amplifier/Rectifier
Circuit boosts D.C supply from the battery pack to the required A.C. output supply which feeds the Hair Dryer heater elements. This power is controlled using a two gang switch, one being the On/Off switch and the other being a three position switch which selects the output power.
The Rapid Charger Transformer Unit is plugged directly into the mains supply using the integral 13 Amp plug.
The mains supply is fed to the Transformer Unit. The mains voltage is stepped down to the battery pack voltage. This output voltage is fed directly to the
Battery/Hair Dryer Stand enabling the Battery Pack to be recharged for further use or to enable spare batteries to be charged at the same time.
EXAMPLE - A specific embodiment of the invention will now be
described by way of example with reference to the
accompanying drawings in which :
FIGURE 1. Shows the Hair Dryer with the battery in
position within the Hair Dryer handle.
FIGURE 2. Shows the Hair Dryer Battery in separation
from the Hair Dryer.
FIGURE 3. Illustrates the Hair Dryer Battery/Hair Dryer
Stand
FIGURE 4. Shows the Hair Dryer Battery/Hair Dryer Stand
with sectional view to illustrate the
charge positions of both the Hair Dryer
inclusive of battery and the spare Hair Dryer
Battery and the wiring method of connecting
both.
FIGURE 5. Shows the Rapid Charger Transformer Unit with
its own integral 13 Amp Plug.
FIGURE 6. Shows the Circuit Block Diagram.
Referring to the drawing the Hair Dryer Unit comprises
of a Plastic Body (1), which houses the Fan/Blower Unit
(2),the Amplifier/Rectifier(3),the 2 Gang 3 Way - On/Off
Switch(4), and the Hair Dryer Battery Unit (5).
In order to use the Portable Hair Dryer the Battery Pack
needs to be fully charged. This is achieved by placing
the Hair Dryer vertically/upright position in the
Battery/Dryer Stand Fig 4. and the Rapid Charger Trans
Former Unit Fig 5. is plugged into the mains and
switched on. The Light Emitting Diodes (8) shows the
Battery Pack charge state, Red indicates that the
Batteries require charging or further charging Green
indicates that the Batteries are fully charged and are
ready for full operational use.
In the Domestic environment the Portable Hair Dryer
allows Total Portability and complete freedom of use in
and around the home and is ideally suited in situations
at home or abroad where a power supply is not
available or non-compatable plugs negates the use of an
electric hair dryer.
In the Commercial Environment the Portable Hair Dryer
would be a considerable benefit within Hairdressing
Salons. A major benefit would be total portability for
hairdressers when staging demonstrations and seminars.
At the moment they are currently limited to the length
of electric cables and availability of compatable power
points required by conventional hairdryers.
