Description
2297784 FLAT JOINT-SEALING ASSEMBLY The present invention relates to a
flat joint-sealing assembly intended to be fastened flat to a support plane, for instance the inner plane face of the door of an oven.
The object of the present invention is an assembly of this type enabling direct fastening of the tight seal to the aforementioned support - that is to say, without glue or adhesive or any other mechanical means for definitive fastening such as riveting.
In accordance with the document DE-U-8 513 460 an assembly of this type has been proposed which is intended to be fastened flat to a support, comprising in assembled form:
- on the one hand, a seal in the form of a section made of visco-elastic material comprising, in transverse section and in the unstressed state, an inner heel, two flanks arranged on either side of the heel and joined to the latter, the two edges of which define an imaginary support plane in contact with the support, in front of and at a distance from the base of the heel, and a sealing lip projecting obliquely from and above the heel and, on the other hand, at least one rigid metallic fastener comprising at least two longitudinal wings defining between them a seat, within which the heel of the seal is crimped or clamped, and a means for anchoring the fastener to the support.
Such an assembly has the drawback of requiring as many different metallic fasteners, and therefore as many different parts, as the straight or curved fittings of the seal which is maintained at individual points by said fasteners.
The object of the present invention is therefore an assembly such as defined above that simplifies manufacture of the fasteners, whatever the fitting of the seal to which they must each be adapted, while enabling effective integration of the seal and the metallic fasteners.
In accordance with the present invention the metallic fastener comprises a single longitudinal wing, 2 approximately perpendicular to the imaginary support plane of the seal in contact with the support, capable of being bent in accordance with any appropriate curvature, and several clips which are distributed over the length of said longitudinal wing and within which the heel of the seal is crimped.
By means of the invention a single and identical type of fastener suffices to match all the local fittings, straight or curved, of the seal. It is sufficient to form or deform each fastener at will in accordance with the local curvature of the seal - that is to say, at the place where the latter is maintained by said fastener.
In accordance with the present invention the different fasteners and the heel of the seal may be designed and manufactured, in a manner so as to be adapted to one another, in accordance with any shape and standardised transverse dimensions, whereas the remainder of the seal that is to say, apart from the heel - may be designed and manufactured in accordance with any variable shape that is appropriate for application of the jointsealing assembly, and more particularly of the seal.
The present invention provides notable simplification of the design and the industrial manufacture of such seals or such a joint-sealing assembly while avoiding, in particular, the need to resort to as many means for fastening or connecting to the support as there are forms of seal employed. The present invention will now be described with reference to the annexed drawing, in which: 30 - Figure 1 represents a front view, from the inside, of the door of an oven which is fitted with a joint- sealing assembly according to the present invention - Figure 2 represents a metallic fastener pertaining to the joint-sealing assembly according to the invention, in the straight condition - that is to say the non-curved condition, that is, having curvature according to the representation of Figures 1 and 5 C 3 00 - Figure 3 represents, in perspective, a metallic end fastener pertaining to a joint-sealing assembly according to the invention - Figure 4 represents a bar for abutting the two ends of the seal, pertaining to a joint-sealing assembly according to the invention Figure 5 represents, in perspective and partially cut away, a jointsealing assembly according to the invention which is mounted on the oven door represented in Figure 1, the metallic fastener represented having been curved in convex manner.
As shown in Figure 1, a joint-sealing assembly according to the invention is intended to be fastened flat, on the inside, to a support plane 2 pertaining to the door 1 of an oven.
The flat joint-sealing assembly according to the invention comprises, in assembled form and mounted on the door 1 of the oven:
- on the one hand, a seal 3 in the form of a section made of visco-elastic material, for example a silicone elastomer, having a closed shape or section, quadrangular with four rounded corners, in such a manner as to define two vertical segments 33 and 34 and two horizontal segments 35 and 36, with four rounded parts between said segments, the two ends 31 and 32 of the seal 3 abutting one another as described below; the section may also take the shape of an inverted U, as a result of which it has only two vertical segments and one horizontal segment, separated from one another by two rounded parts, and there is no abutment.
- four metallic fasteners 4, formed or deformed in rounded manner, crimped onto the seal 3 in the region of its four aforementioned corners and themselves fastened to the support 2 - two metallic end fasteners 5, crimped in the two abutted ends 31 and 32 of the seal 3 and themselves also fastened to the support 2 4 - a bar 6 for abutting the two ends 31 and 32 of the seal 3, linking the latter in crimped manner without any other means for fastening to the support 2.
As shown in Figure 5, the seal 3 comprises, in transverse section and in the unstressed state, an inner heel 3a, two flanks 3b and 3c arranged on either side of the aforementioned heel and linked to the latter. The two edges 3d of the two flanks 3b and 3c define an imaginary support plane in contact with the support 2, situated in front of and at a distance from the base 3e of the heel 3a, in such a manner as to enclose and mask the heel 3a, onto which are crimped the metallic fasteners 4, the metallic end fasteners 5 and the abutment bar 6, in the mounted state of the joint-sealing assembly according to the present invention. A sealing lip 3f projects from and above the heel 3a outside the volume delimited by the two flanks 3b and 3c. The heel 3a of the seal 3 has a transverse section in the form of a right trapezium. 20 The flanks 3b and 3c of the seal 3 extend obliquely from the heel while being linked to the latter by two shoulders 3j. In accordance with the representation of Figure 2, a metallic fastener 4 comprises a longitudinal wing 4a capable of being bent at will in accordance with any appropriate curvature, for example four clips 4b distributed over the length of the wing, defining with the latter a seat 4c, within which the heel 3a of the seal is crimped, and a means 4d for anchoring the fastener to the support, comprising an oblique leg for connecting to the support 2 and extending from the wing 4a. As represented in Figure 5, the longitudinal wing of each fastener 4 is approximately perpendicular to the support plane on the support 2. Each clip 4b comprises a part 4i approximately perpendicular to the wing 4a and intended to come to be located below the base 3e of the heel 3a of the seal 3, and a part 4h bent away from the part 4i and intended to come a into contact with one side of the heel 3a of the seal in such a manner as to avoid its loosening in relation to the metallic fastener 4.
In accordance with Figure 3, each metallic end fastener 5 comprises an elongated base 5a and six clips 5b arranged on either side of the base 5a, defining with the latter a seat, within which the heel 3a of the seal 3 is crimped, and a means 5c for attachment to the support 2, situated at one longitudinal end of the base 5a.
In accordance with the representation of Figure 4, the bar 6 for abutting the two ends 31 and 32 of the seal 3 which is formed so as to be closed comprises an elongated base 6a and twelve clips 6b arranged on either side of the base 6a and defining with the latter a seat, within which the two ends of the heel 3a of the seal 3 are crimped end to end.
According to the invention the joint-sealing assembly is obtained as follows:
- the four metallic fasteners 4 are curved in such a manner as to fit the desired curvature for the seal 3, at the four corners of the door of the oven - the seal 3 is crimped at the appropriate places, on the four metallic fasteners 4, the two metallic end fasteners 5 and on the abutting bar 6, in such a manner as to achieve the general closed section represented in Figure 1 - the assembly obtained is then connected to the support 2 by means of the fasteners 4d, 5c described above so as to achieve the general configuration shown in Figure 1.
