Abstract
Azo dyes are produced by coupling diazo compounds with alkyl- or aralkyl-arylsulphaminonaphthol sulphonic acids. As diazo compounds may be used simple amines, aminoazo compounds, tetrazo compounds, or intermediate compounds from a tetrazo compound and 1 mol. of another component. The products yield red to blue shades on wool and are faster, particularly to chlorine, and generally more yellowish than the corresponding dyes from arylsulphaminonaphthol sulphonic acids. If the arylsulpho-group contains the o-hydroxy-carboxylic group (as in the salicylsulpho-group) the dyes will dye chromed wool in fast shades; they may then also be used for chrome-printing on cotton. According to examples (1) diazotized o-phenetidine is coupled with 1 - ethylp-toluenesulphamino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphonic acid; (2) the aminoazo compound from aniline- 2 : 5-disulphonic acid and 3-amino-4-cresolethylether is diazotized and coupled with 2-methyl-salicylsulphamino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid. Alkyl-arylsulphaminonaphtholsulphonic acids. -1 - Ethyl-p-toluenesulphamino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphonic acid and 2-methyl-salicylsulphamino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid are prepared by condensing the corresponding alkylaminonaphtholsulphonic acids with p-toluenesulphochloride and salicylsulphochloride respectively.
