Abstract

Space heating apparatus (1) comprises a central unit (2) which comprises a reversible heat pump circuit (4) which provides heating and cooling to a heat transfer medium circuit (8) through a main heat exchanger (6). Heated water in the circuit (8) is circulated through fan coil heat exchangers (18) in remote units (3) by a circulating pump (52). Water in the circuit (8) is stored and heated in a storage tank (38) during a heat storage period for use when the apparatus (1) is being operated with minimum power requirement. During the heat storage period, the water in the storage tank (38) is initialled heated by the heat pump to a temperature of 60 DEG C and is then raised to 85 DEG C by an immersion heater (55) in the storage tank (38). <IMAGE>
