Abstract

A solar heater comprises a body in the form of an extruded profile 1, in whose passages liquids or gases can be passed or held to be heated by the sun's rays. At the ends of the extrusion are connectors which would enable other similar modules to be connected. These connectors also enable the heater to be plumbed in. Such heaters can be fixed on frames or put on moving bases as an array directable toward the sun. <IMAGE>

Description

This invention relates to a solar heating device.
Solar heaters using panels of pipes to collect the heating effects ofthe sun's rays are well known. Because ofthe nature ofthe panel, if it is aligned with the sun's rays, then rays on the surface mean that energy is transferred to a gas or liquid placed in or passing along the interior of the panel with the purpose of it becoming heated by the suns rays.
The cost of materials make the cost effectiveness ofthis system inpractical in certain climates.
According to the present invention there is provided a twinwall profile extrusion formed by two skins, joined by a large number of flutes. Through the flutes liquids or gases can be passed or held for the purpose of being heated by the suns rays striking the surface ofthe extrusion.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the the accompanying drawings and sample in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the fluted twinwall profile extrusion.
Figure 2 shows a side view ofthe fluted twinwall profile extrusion.
Figure 3 shows in perspective the fluted twinwall profile extrusion solar heater.
Referring to drawings the heater comprises a body in the form of a fluted twinwall profile extrusion, 1 (figures 1, 2 and 3), through which liquids or gases could be passed or held in the flutes 3 (figures 1, 2 and 3). At the ends ofthe extrusion are connectors which would enable other similar modules to be connected and de-connected 2 (Figure 3). These could be in the form of male and female screwing devices, interlocking connectors, or any means allowing the addition or subtraction of similar modules.
These connectors would also be the means by which the heater would be plumbed in.
The connectors would need to withstand pressures of at least 6 bar and allow flow to and from all the flutes being used in the heater. The heaters can be fixed on frames or put on moving bases as an array which could be directed toward the sun and could be encased behind glass to enhance their efficiency.

Claims (3)

1 A solar heater in the form of a twinwall profile extrusion formed by two skins, joined by a large number of flutes.
2 A solar heater as claimed in claim 1 through which gases or liquids can be passed or held.
3 A solar heater as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein connecting means are provided for connection to or disconnection from similar solar heaters and plumbing systems.
