Abstract

A barrier system has a plurality of spaced bases 11 providing recesses 17 receiving uprights 18 connected to a barrier plank 20. The base 11 has recesses 14 which receive locating tongues 21 resiliently connected to the plank 20. A plank 20 is normally supported on at least two bases 11. A further plank may be mounted on the uprights at a higher position. <IMAGE>

Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO BARRIER SYTENI:S THIS INVENTION relates to barrier systems.
According to this invention a barrier system comprises a plurality of bases, each base providing recesses for receiving lower ends of uprights, and barrier means connected to the uprights, the base providing upwardly facing recess means for receipt of locating means secured to the barrier means.
The upwardly facing recess means may comprise two spaced upwardly facing recesses.
The locating means may comprise a tongue engageable in an upwardly facing recess.
The tongue may be resiliently connected to the barrier means.
The barrier means may comprise a plastics plank.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying somewhat diagrammatic drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a plan view of part of a barrier system; Fig. 2 is a view of Fig. 1 from the rear; Fig. 3 is a rear view of part of the system; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of part of a barrier system.
A barrier system 10 comprises a plurality of spaced bases 11. Each base 11 is a single plastics moulding and has a generally flat lower part 12 and a central upstanding part 13 providing upwards facing spaced sockets 14.
The part 12 has flat upper surfaces 15, 16 respectively on opposite sides of part 13.
Surface 15 has two or preferably three upwards facing recesses 17 respectively for receipt of the lower ends of barrier uprights 18 with a friction fit.
The barrier upright 18 is a plastics tube and a bracket 19 is secured e.g. by rivets to the upright 18 and the rear of flat barrier plank element 20. As shown at the right of Fig. 3 the upright 18 may support upper and lower barrier elements 20a, 20.
A locating tongue 21 is secured to the rear of barrier element 20 and is receivable in respective socket 14. The tongue 21may have a springy connection to the element 20. This provides a firm location for the barrier element(s).
As can be seen in Fig. 3, adjacent elements 20 of a barrier system can be supported at their ends 22 on the same base lla. Depending on the length of barrier element 20, the next base 11 may support the ends of two elements 20 or, as shown at 30, a portion intermediate the ends of the element. In some cases, e.g. 30, the centre upright-18 is omitted or an end upright is omitted.
The centre recess 17 may be omitted.
Fig. 4 shows a corner in a barrier system.
The surface 16 Fig. 1 may also have two or three recesses 17 for receipt of uprights as above.
A length of barrier element 20 and base 11 can be lifted by grasping element 20.

Claims (6)
