Abstract
228,606. Hill, W. L. Nov. 2, 1923. Couplings.-A two-wheeled trailer is coupled to a tractor by a draw-bar, for the longitudinal forces applied at or below the level of the axis of the axle, and an extension bar on the trailer, for the vertical and lateral forces, engaging with the tractor at a point on top of or in front of the back axle. The extension e enters an open bracket d secured to the top of the rear axle, the bracket being provided with an inclined guide way d, preferably carrying balls or rollers d<2>, up which the front end of the trailer is guided when the tractor is backed into position. The tractive effort is applied through a jointed coupling f at or below the centre of the axle. The trailer when detached from the tractor is supported by a hinged leg g which may be lifted clear of the ground by a chain &c. g'.
