Abstract

A extendible compact disc storage rack has a rigid central spine 6 and a body formed by a series of flanges 9 which are secured perpendicular to the spine and parallel to one another thoughout its entire length. The leading face 7 of the spine and front edges of the flanges are semi-circular in profile to assist in locating the compact disc cassettes into their individual storage spaces 8. There are protruding wedges 10 on the underside of each flange which provide positive friction contacts to each individually inserted cassette, thus allowing the rack to be employed in two capacities; wall-mounted or laid horizontally on a surface. By connecting two or more compact disc storage racks together larger quantities of cassettes can be accommodated. <IMAGE>

Description

EXTENDIBLE COMPACT DISK STORAGE RACK This invention relates to a extendible compact disc storage rack.

The effective storage of compact disc cassettes can be achieved with a extendible compact disc rack in two capacities: i) wall-mounted in the vertical plane ii) laid horizontally on a surface In both capacities the individual units can be extended to accommodate larger volumes of cassettes by connecting several units in series. A connecting strip push fits into one end of one unit and the protruding end of the strip slides into the abutting face of another unit 11.

According to the present invention each compact disc storage rack consists of a central rigid spine 6, the leading face 7 being semi-circular in profile. This assists in locating the compact disc cassettes into individual storage spaces 8 formed by a pair of parallel flanges 9. The leading edges of each flange are also semi-circular in profile which assists in locating the compact disc cassettes.

When the compact disc rack is mounted in the vertical plane, the flanges 9 act as horizontal supports, allowing individual cassettes to be cantilevered off the central spine 6. The flanges also separate the compact disc cassettes from one another. If the compact disc rack is laid horizontally then the flanges 9 stabilise the cassettes so allowing them to stand in soldier form.

There are protruding wedges 10, semi-circular in section on the underside of each flange running parallel with the spine. These wedges provide a positive friction contact over a small area to each inserted cassette which secures them within the rack.

To mount the rack to a vertical plane such as a wall, two screws are fixed in the surface in a plumb line. The hole 13 on the rear of the spine 6 is then offered over the uppermost screw head and then slid vertical down in the direction of the arrow 13 over the lower screw head which arrests the rack in a secured vertical position.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the compact disc storage rack in a vertical position.

Figure 2 illustrates the rear elevation of the rack which shows the hole and slots used when mounting the storage rack in its vertical capacity.

Figure 3 shows the compact disc storage rack in side elevation which illustrates the protruding friction wedges.

Figure 5 illustrates the top and underneath views of the compact disc storage rack.

Claims

1. A extendible compact disc storage rack comprising a central rigid spine and a body formed by a series of flanges which are secured perpendicular to the spine and parallel to one another throughout its entire length. Compact disc cassettes can be inserted between the flanges and stored in a vertical or horizontal mode.

2. A extendible compact disc storage rack as claimed in (1) allows individual cassettes to be stored independently of one another by means of cantilevering off the central spine when mounted in the vertical plane.

3. A extendible compact disc storage rack as claimed in (1) and (2) allows individual cassettes to be stored independently of one another to stand in soldier form off the central spine when laid horizontally on a surface.

4. A extendible compact disc storage rack as claimed in any preceding claim has protruding wedges on the underside of each individual flange which provides a positive friction contact over a concentrated area of cassette case when inserted, which secures the cassettes in a truly horizontal or soldier like manner.

5. A extendible compact disc storage rack as claimed in any preceding claim can be increased in height or length by connecting one or more units in series.
