Description
A BOX
This invention relates to a box, and particularly, but not exclusively to a box for holding one or more sheets of paper.
It is often necessary to have access to a supply of paper, for example to feed into a computer printer, or other machine.
It is known to store sheets of paper in boxes in a substantially horizontal position, for example on a table, or in a drawer. Access to the paper stored in such a box may be difficult and awkward because, for example, it may be necessary to open a drawer to gain access to the paper. In addition, the paper may fit tightly within the box thus making it difficult to grasp the paper in order to remove it from the box.
According to the invention there is provided a box for holding one or more sheets of paper, the box comprising:
a sheet holding portion comprising a front side and an
opposite rear side, a bottom side positionable on a
support surface, and an opposite top side, which top side
comprises an openable portion allowing access to one or
more sheets, and
a support portion attachable to the rear side of the
sheet holding portion for supporting the box in a
position in which the front side of the sheet holding
portion forms an angle with the support surface on which
the box is positioned.
The box is thus supported in a position in which the front and rear sides of the box are positioned at an angle to the support surface on which the box is positioned. In addition, the top side of the box is easily accessible, and comprises an openable portion which allows access to sheets held within the box.
When it is required to take out one or more sheets access is easily gained to the sheets within the box.
Preferably, the front and rear sides of the sheet holding portion are each substantially rectangular, and the top and bottom sides of the sheet holding portion are formed along the long sides of the rectangular shape.
Advantageously the box further comprises a first row of perforations extending along the front side of the sheet holding portion towards and substantially parallel to the top end, and a second row of perforations running along the rear side of the sheet holding portion and positioned towards and substantially parallel to the top end.
To gain access to the sheets within the box, it is merely necessary to tear the front side and the rear side along the first and second rows of perforations allowing a portion of the sheet holding portion including the top end to be completely removed to expose the edges of the sheets of paper held in the box.
Advantageously, the box is formed from cardboard. However, any other suitable material could be used for example plastic.
Preferably, the support portion is attachable to the rear side of the box and is shaped to provide a support foot extending away from the box.
The invention will now be further described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure la is a schematic representation of the box according to the present invention;
Figure ib, and ic are schematic representations of the box of
Figure la showing how a portion of the box may be removed;
Figure 2 is a schematic representation of a rear view of the box of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a side view of the box of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a representation of the box of Figure 1 in flat form, before being formed into a box.
Referring to Figures 1 (a), (b) and (c) a box according to the present invention is designated generally by the reference numeral 10. The box is designed to hold one or more sheets 11 which are positionable in the box. The box comprises a sheet holding portion 12 having an openable portion 13 which is openable to allow access to the sheets 11 contained within the box. The box 10 further comprises a support portion 14 which supports the box 10. The box 10 comprises a front side 15 and a rear side 16 (not shown), a bottom side 17 and a top side 18.
The support portion 14 supports the box such that the front side 15 of the box 10 is at an angle to a support surface on which the box is positioned.
The box further comprises a first row of perforations 19 formed on the front face 15 of the box 10, and substantially parallel to the top end 18 of the box. A second row of perforations (not shown) is formed similarly on the rear side 16 of the box 10. In order to gain access to the sheets 11 contained within the box 10, the box is torn along the perforations 19,20 thus removing a portion of the box including the top end 18 (as shown in Figures 1b and lc). The box further comprises side walls 21 (only one of which is shown) which extend from the bottom end 17 of the box up to the perforations 19,20. Thus when the removable portion is removed, access is easily gained to the sheets contained within the box.
Referring now to Figures 2 and 3 further details of the box 10 are shown. The support 14 comprises a length of material typically formed from the same material as the box 10. The box could be formed of any suitable material, but it has been found that cardboard is particularly advantageous. The support is substantially the same width as the width of the box 10 and is shaped to form a support foot 31 positioned some distance away from the rear side 16 of the box 10. The support portion is attached to the rear side 16 of the box 10 towards the bottom end 17 of the box and also towards the top end of the box. The lower portion of the support comprises support foot 31 together with portion 32 which extends from the rear side 16 of the box.
An intermediate portion 33 positioned between portion 31,32 is substantially triangular in cross-section. The triangular shape of the intermediate portion 31 runs along the length of the support 14 and provides a stable support configuration.
However, other shapes and configurations could be used to form the support 14.
Referring to Figure 4, the box of Figure 1 is shown in flat form before being constructed into a box. The box is formed from a sheet 40 made of, for example, cardboard. Parts of the sheet of cardboard 40 which form parts of the box shown in
Figures 1, 2, 3 above have been given corresponding reference numerals.
Although the box according to the present invention has been described in terms of a box for holding sheets of paper, the box could also be used to hold other objects. As mentioned above it is advantageous to form the box from cardboard, although any other suitable material could be used.
Claims (6)
