Abstract

Trisazo dyes are produced by coupling a diazo compound of the benzene or naphthalene series with a second component of the naphthalene series, rediazotizing and coupling again with a second component of the naphthalene series, and finally diazotizing and coupling with a 1-aryl-aminonaphthalenesulphonic acid. The products dye cotton directly in grey, blue-grey, or black shades fast to light and washing. According to examples 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulphonic acid, or Cleve's 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-sulphonic acid, is coupled with the diazo compounds of the following amino-disazo dyes:-a -naphthylamine or Cleve's acid or p-aminoacetanilide--> Cleve's acid --> Cleve's acid, 1-methyl-2-aminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid or p-toluidine --> Cleve's acid --> Cleve's acid, 1-methyl-2-aminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid --> a -naphthylamine --> Cleve's acid, Cleve's acid --> Cleve's acid --> a -naphthylamine. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of second components generally as middle components. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
