Abstract

A portable partitioning system, has detachable, and interchangable panels 1. The panels are secured together by head fixing members 2, and base fixing members 3. To develope corners of any desired angle there are provided, corner head and base fixing members 4/5. Corner uprights 12 are provided, and the panels, which may e.g. be of wood or plastics, may be fixed to the fixing members by dowels 13, 16 filling in to holes. <IMAGE>

Description

A PANEL JOINING SYSTEM This invention relates to a panel joining system.
There are a number of panelled partitioning systems on the market at present. For most purposes these systems are inadequate, as the panels usually fold but will not detach quickly or simply, and unless they are permanently fixed tend to be flimsy.
It is an aim of the present invention to obviate the above mentioned problem.
According to the present invention there is provided any given number of panels, and detachable head, and base fixing members that join the panels together, thus forming the partition. The fixing members being created in various shapes, enabling the partition to be developed to any desired shape, and with any number of sub-partitions branching off along its length.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows in isometric, part of the erected system in the form of a play area Figure 2 shows in exploded form, component parts for a corner development.
Figure 3 shows in elevation, details of the fixings on two adjacent panels, plus the corner fixing.
Figure 4 shows in plan, the position of dowels, or holes in the fixing members.
Referring to the drawings the panel joining system comprises any given number of panels 1, each with four dowels 13 projecting from the top, and four holes 14 bored into the base.
The dowels 13, may be of any distance apart, provided that the two inner dowels 13, either side of the centre, are of equal distance from the centre, as the two outer dowels 13, are from each edge. This also applies to the holes 14 in the base. The positioning of the dowelsl3, and holes 14 must be uniform throughout the panels 1.
Head fixing members 2, (each equal in length to the width of a single panel 1).
Comprising four holes 15 bored into the underside. The holes 15 along each members length, must be precisely the same distance apart as the dowels 13 in the panels head.
Each head fixing member 2 sits centred over two adjacent panels 1, the holes 15 locating onto two dowels 13 per panel 1, fixing together the top of two panels 1.
Base fixing members 3, (each equal in length to the width of a single panel 1).
Comprising four dowels 16 projecting from the topside. The dowels 16 along each members length, must be precisely the same distance apart as the holes 14 in the panels base. Each base fixing member 3 sits centred under two adjacent panels 1, the dowels 16 locating into two holes 14 per panel 1, fixing together the base of two panels 1.
Corner head fixing members 4, (the internal sides each being equal in length, to half the width of a single panel 1). Comprising five holes 15 bored into the underside. These members sit centred over two adjacent panels 1 placed at the given angle, the holes 15 locating onto two dowels 13 per panel 1, securing the top of the panels 1, and developing the desired corner.
Corner base fixing members 5, (the internal sides each being equal in length, to half the width of a single panel 1). Comprising five dowels 16, projecting from the topside. These members sit centred under two adjacent panels 1 placed at the given angle, the dowels 16 locating into two holes 14 per panel 1, securing the base of the panels 1, and developing the desired corner.
"T" head fixing members 6 (see figure 4), (each equal in length to the width of a single panel. The leg of the "T" equal in length to half the width of a single panel 1). Comprising six holes 15 bored into the underside. These members sit centred over three adjacent panels 1, with the holes 15 locating onto two dowels 13 per panel 1, securing the top of the panels 1, and developing the desired "T".
"T" base fixing members 7, (see figure 4), (each equal in length to the width of a single panel. The leg of the "T" equal in length to half the width of a single panel). Comprising six dowels 16 projecting from the topside. These members sit centred under three adjacent panels 1, with the dowels 16 locating into two holes 14 per panel 1, securing the base of the panels 1, and developing the desired "T".
Cross head fixing members 8, (see figure 4), (each equal in length in one direction to the width of a single panel, the other direction being the thickness of a panel longer).
Comprising eight holes 15, (two on each spur), bored into the underside. Each cross head fixing member 8 sits centred over four adjacent panels 1, the holes 15 locating onto two dowels 13 per panel 1, fixing together the top of the panels 1, and developing the desired cross.
Cross base fixing members 9, (see figure 4), (each equal in length in one direction to the width of a single panel, the other direction being the thickness of a panel longer).
Comprising eight dowels 16 (two on each spur) projecting from the top. Each cross base fixing member 9 sits centred under four adjacent panels 1, the dowels 16 locating into two holes 14 per panel 1, fixing together the base of the panels 1, and developing the desired cross.
Half head fixing members 10, (see figure 4), (each equal in length to half the width of a single panel). Comprising two holes 15, bored into the underside, which locate onto two dowels 13, projecting from the top of an end panel 1.
Half base fixing members 11, (see figure 4), (each equal in length to half the width of a single panel). Comprising two dowels 16, projecting from the top, which locate into two holes 14, bored into the underside of an end panel 1.
Upright corner pieces 12, (equal in length to the length of a single panel). Comprising one dowel 17 projecting from the top, which locates into one hole 15 of the corner head fixing member 4, and one hole 18 bored into the underside, which locates onto one dowel 16 of the corner base fixing member 5.
The holes on any fixing member may be bored completely through.
The dowels, and holes on, or in any component part, may be of any arrangement. For example the top of the panel may have holes rather than dowels, with the head fixing members possessing the dowels.
The panels, and other components may be constructed of known materials. For example plastics, timber, or timber based sheet material.
The panels may be of any desired height, width, or thickness. They may also contain apertures of any desired, and appropriate shape, and size. Thus for example, a heart, triangle, diamond, star, moon, circle, or square shape.
The panels may also contain a door for access of any desired, and appropriate shape, and size.
The panels may contain more or less dowels and holes than specified above.
The fixing members may contain more or less dowels and/or holes than specified above.
The fixing members may be wider than the panels thickness, to give added stability.
The fixing members dowels, and/or holes may be set in a groove the thickness of a panel along their length for additional support to the panels.
The fixing members may be longer, for joining two or more panels.
Corner fixing members may be of any desired angle.

Claims (2)

1 An intrechangable partitioning system comprising portable panels, each with four pins extruding from the top, and four holes boared into the underside. Head fixing members, each comprising four holes boared into the underside, which bridge over the top of two panels, the holes locating onto two pins per panel, thus securing together the top of two ajasant panels. Base fixing members, each comprising four pins extruding from the top, which bridge accross the base of two panels, the pins locating into two holes per panel, thus securing together the base of two ajasent panels.
2 An interchangable play area and partitioning system as discribed herein with reference to 1-2 of the accompanying drawing.
