Abstract

The slate hanger 3 has a vertical bevelled spine which is internally serrated to interlock with the serrated hanger strap 10 when the strap is threaded through the hanger. The hanger strap is nailed to the exposed roof batten 1 and the slate 4 is placed into position on tabs 7. The slate hanger and slate are then slid up the hanger strap to the required position ensuring that the bevelled spine is seated in the valley provided by the bevelled edges of the slates to either side. The excess length of the hanger strap 10 below the slate is then cut away. <IMAGE>

Description

ROOF SLATE REPLACEMENT HANGER This invention relates to a roof slate replacement hanger.
Conventional fixing of roof slate replacements is by way of a 1.5cm. non-ferrous metal strip nailed to the exposed roof batten and then bent vertically to hold the replaced slate in position. Temperature variation windand slate weight create malleability in the metal strip permitting the slate to drop slightly, swing to the side and cause the slate to make a chattering noise in high wind as it vibrates on the metal strip and the slates to the side and below.
According to the present invention there is a roof slate replacement hanger secured by an interlocking serrated hanging strap nailed to the exposed roof batten by means of a 2cm. galvanized nail. The invention is designed to eliminate side movement of the slate, reduce slate noise in high winds and to maintain the slate in the vertical position. Malleability is reduced by the composition.
Specifics of the invention will now be described by way of reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 Shows the roof slate replacement hanger with the hanging strap threaded.
Figure 2 illustrates the serrated hanging strap.
Figure 3 illustrates the bevelled hanger spine.
Figure 4 illustrates the internal interlocking hanger spine serrations.
Figure 5 ilLustrates the hanger in the pre final position.
Figure 6 illustrates the replacement slate hanger in the final position with the excess hanging strap cut away.
Referring to the drawings the serrated hanging strap as shown in Fig 2 is nailed to the exposed roof batten 1 by means of a 2cm. galvanized flat head nail 2. The hangers internally serrated spine 6 is threaded on to the hanging strap 3. The replacement slate 4 is mounted on the hanger behind the retaining lips 7 and then slid into position ensuring that the bevelled spine rests in the valley provided by the bevelled edges of the slates below. When in position Fig 6 the excess hanging strap is cut away.

Claims (6)

1. A roof slate replacement hanger secured by an interlocking serrated hanging strap nailed to the exposed roof batten by means of a 2cm.galvanized nail.The invention is designed to eliminate side movement of the slate,reduce slate noise in high winds and to maintain the slate in the vertical position. Malleability is reduced by the composition.
2. A roof slate replacement hanger as claimed in claim 1 wherein a vertical bevelled spine is provided at the back of the hanger to maintain the vertical position of the slate.
3. A roof slate replacement hanger as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein dual hanger lips are provided to arrest slate lift.
4. A roof slate replacement hanger as claimed in claim 1 wherein the serrated hanging strap is serrated to interlock with internal serrations on the bevelled spine.
5. A roof slate replacement hanger as claimed in claim 1 wherein the hanger spine internal serrations interlock with serrations on the hanger strap.
6. A roof slate replacement hanger substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-6 of the accompanying drawings.
