Abstract
Salts of hydrofluosilicic and hydrofluoboric acids are prepared by the reaction of silica and a fluoride in presence of an acid, with a soluble salt; or silicon fluoride, a metal fluoride and a salt of the metal of which the silicofluoride is required, in the presence of an acid. The reactions may be assisted by heat and pressure. For the salts of hydrofluoboric acid, the silica is replaced by boron oxide or fluoride, these being used together with hydrofluoric acid or an insoluble fluoride. The examples include the production of potassium silicofluorides from potassium fluoride, silica, calcium cluoride, and hydrochloric acid, or potassium chloride, silica, calcium fluoride, and hydrochloric acid, or potassium chloride, silicon fluoride, calcium fluoride, and a small quantity of an acid, or potassium silicate, calcium fluoride, and hydrochloric acid; the production of magnesium silicofluoride from magnesium sulphate, silica, calcium fluoride, and sulphuric acid; the production of sodium borofluoride from sodium chloride, boron fluoride, calcium fluoride, and an acid; and the production of potassium borofluoride from potassium chloride, boron oxide, calcium fluoride, and hydrochloric acid. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the production of complex fluorides other than silicofluorides and borofluorides by similar processes, and the production of silicofluorides from silica, an acid, and a fluoride; potassium silicofluoride from potassium fluoride, silica and hydrochloric acid; and sodium borofluoride from sodium chloride, boron fluoride and hydrofluoric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
