Abstract
An orthopaedic human skeletal joint demonstrational aid has a facsimile human bone or bones which have pieces releasably secured to the main body of the facsimile bone or bones so that these pieces may be removed from the main body thereof allowing the orthopaedic implant to be fitted onto the main body of the bone and the procedure to be reversed allowing the implant to be reused. The pieces may be releasably secured by magnetic means. <IMAGE>
Description
ORTHOPAEDIC HUMAN SKELETAL JOINT DEMONSTRATION AID
This invention relates to orthopaedic demonstration aids.
In the medical field, it is known to demonstrate surgical techniques using aids specifically provided for this purpose.
since it is impractical to rely solely on demonstration of such techniques on the human body To this ed there is a need for an orthopaedic demonstration aid which is capable at showing all staves of human skeletal Joint replacement in one demonstrational aid. Starting in its natural anatomic form, the same demonstrational aid is then able to demonstrate each stage of surgical alteration made to human skeletal joints by orthopaedic implant techniques upto and including the fitting of orthopaedic prosthesis to said bone or bones.
It is an object of the invention to provide a demonstration aid which is particularly convenient in use.
According to the present invention there is provided an orthopaedic demonstration aid comprising a facsimile of the human skeletal knee full femur and tibia, excluding patella, which is connected together with four facsimile ligaments in the correct anatomical position. The facsimile skeletal knee is made up of a series of different pieces which are anatomically correct to the human skeletal knee in its natural form, when put together in the correct order. Currently the pieces are being held together by means of magnetic attraction from recessed magnets that are located in each of the pieces so when correctly positioned show the complete human skeletal knee with full femur and tibia in its natural +orm prior to any surgery.
ORTHOPAEDIC HUMAN SKELETAL JOINT DEMONSTRATION AID Then with the removal of each piece of the demonstrational aid it shows different stages of the orthopaedic implant technique, d finally with all the pieces removes the demonstrational aid can readly accept the correct ortnopaedic prosthesis +or both the femur and tibia. Once the demonstration of the orthopaedic implant technique has been completed the prosthesis can be removed and the demonstrational aid pieces can then ne put back into their correct position in preparation for reuse.
In order that the invention may be more ully understood, a preferred embodiment of the invention will now be shown with accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing how according to this current example the first and accomplished stage of the orthopaedic human skeletal joint demonstration aid.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, snowing how according to this current example the series of pieces are located to tne main bones and the positioning OT the recessed magnets on the orthopaedic human skeletal demonstration aid.
Figure 3 is a perspective view, showing ow according to this current example the fia state of orthopaedic human skeletal joint demonstrational aid when it can accept the correct orthopaedic prosthesis.
The above described orthopaedic skeletal joint demonstrational aid may be used to demonstrate surgical orthopaedic techniques in joint replacement, such as in hip, knee, shoulder, digit, wrist, elbow, ankle. they may also be used in demonstrating power surgical tools and hand instruments.
Claims (10)
- ORTHOPAEDIC HUMAN SKELETAL JOINT DEMONSTRATIONAL AIDI An orthopaedic human skeletal joint demonstrational aid comprising one or more Facsimile human skeletal bones including a plurality of releasably securing pieces of said bone or bones, and means for releasably securing said pieces together.
- 2. An aid as claimed in Claim l, wherein the pieces are such that, when put together to produce the natural form of the bone or bones, the pieces are removable sequentially to show different stages of an orthopaedic implant technique.
- 3. An aid as claimed in aim m > or Claim 2 , wherein the pieces are removable to enable acceptance o+ an orthopaedic prostnesis for the bone or bones.
- 4. An aid as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the pieces are secured together by magnetic attraction.
- 5. An aid as claimed in Claim 4 , wherein the pieces are secured together by means ot recessed magnets in the pieces.
- 6. An aid as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the number of releasably securing pieces are dependant upon the orthopaedic implant technique being demonstrated.
- 7. An aid as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein a portion of the facsimile bone or bones is required instead of the whole facsimile bone or bones.
- 8. An aid as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the orthopaedic prosthesis could not be witted.
- 9. An aid as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the orthopaedic implant surgical tools could not be fitted.
- 10.An orthopaedic human skeletal joint demonstrational aid as described herein wit reference to figures 1-3 of accompanying drawings.
