Abstract
A means for mounting a window fitting for a slide-opening window, wherein hinge arms (5) are located between the window frame (3) and the sash both at the top and at the bottom, and wherein a glider (1) for the window frame (3) is rotatably mounted (2, 12) at both the top and the bottom on the window frame (3) on the vertical edge thereof, said hinge arm (5) being rotatably attached at one end to a rotation plate (6) which is designed to be attached to the window frame (3), and having, at its other end, a pivot hole (13) designed to interact with a pivot located in the window casing. The glider, on at least one of its longitudinal sides, is furnished with a track (10), and the hinge arm (5) in said other end thereof has a recess (8) arranged along the length of the arm which corresponds approximately with the contour of the side of the glider (1). In the recess (8), preferably halfway there-along, a pin (9) protrudes which is designed to engage with the said track. The rotation plate has a correct mounting position relative to the window frame when said pin engages with said track. <IMAGE>
Description
MEANS FOR MOUNTING A WINDOW FITTING.
The present invention relates to a means for mounting a window fitting for a slide-opening window, wherein hinge arms are located between the window frame and the sash both at the top and at the bottom, and wherein a glider for the window frame is rotatably mounted, at both the top and the bottom, on the window frame on the vertical edge thereof, said hinge arm being rotatably attached at one end to a rotation plate which is designed to be attached to the window frame, and having at its other end a pivot hole designed to interact with a pivot pin located in the window casing.
Slide-opening pivoting windows are previously known where the window frame is furnished at one end thereof, both at the top and at the bottom, with gliders which slide in a track in the upper and lower horizontal parts, respectively, of the window casing. Moreover, in order to make the window rotatably invertable, as well as to ensure that said it does not fall out of the frame, it is necessary to have two hinge arms which extend at the top and the bottom, respectively from an adjacent part of the outer side of the window casing (when the window is closed) to a mid-point on the window frame at the top and the bottom, respectively. Hinge arms of this kind, which when the window is in its normal closed position, lie outside the window frame, are not acceptable from an aesthetic point of view, in addition to the window frame not being pivotably invertable through full 1800.Furthermore, the locking of the window in this position is not made possible because the side of the frame which does not have gliders will remain on the outside of the hinge arms.
A more recent suggestion is therefore to place the hinge arms parallel to the upper edge and the lower edge, respectively, of the window frame. Thus, the window will be pivotably nvertable through full 1800, and will also be lockable in the inverted position, which of great significance when the window is to be cleaned from the inside of the house in which the window is mounted.
There are, however, certain problems with the mounting of hinge arms of this kind. This is due partly to a need for factory mounting with jigs in order to ensure a 100% correct centre of rotation on the frames for said hinge arms. If this does not happen, it could, at worse, mean that the hinge arms are not mounted as they should be between the sash and the frame, or that the window will not be able to pivot through 1800, which makes, for instance, the cleaning of the windows from the inside a rather risky business.
It is therefore an objectIve of the present invention to be able to mount hinge arms on a window frame without having to resort to pre-arilling of holes in a jig or mounting by rough estimate based on measurements made with a metre rule or a gauge.
Accn ng to t:ie invention, -he means is characterizea in that the glider, on at east one of its longitudinal sides, is provided with a track, that the hinge arm, in said other end thereof, has a recess arranged along the length of the arm which corresponds approximately with the contour of the side of the glider, and that n the recess, preferably halfway there-along a pin prct--aes which is designed to engage with said track, and that the rotating plate has a correct mounting position relative to the window frame when said pin engages with said track.
In the accompanying drawings: figure la depicts a window frame with a glider fitting mountea thereon.
figure ib shows a hinge arm to be mounted on the window frame.
Figure 2 shows figure 1 in perspective view with the hinge arm mounted on the window frame.
In figure 1, a window frame 3 is shown in partial view from above with a glider 1 mounted thereon which is rotatable via a pivot 12 attached to a glider fitting 2 which is secured to the end edge of the frame 3 by means of screws 4. The hinge arm 5 is, at one end thereof, rotatably attached to a rotation plate 6 which is provided with holes 7 for attachment screws.
At the other end thereof, the hinge arm is furnished with a recess 8 which fits with the contour of the glider 1, and a pin 9 protrudes halfway along the length of the recess, the width of the pin corresponding approximately to the width of a track 10 on either side of the glider 1, and the extension of which corresponds to the depth of the track 10.
When the plate 6 is to be mounted on the frame 3, it is placed in the groove 3' on the frame in such a way as to be flush therewith. The arm 5 is arranged so that the pin 9 forms an engagement with the track 10 on the glider. During this operation, the arm and plate may optionally be pushed along the groove 3' until the pin falls into track 10. The position of the plate 6 is thereby determined, and screws can be inserted into the holes 7 in order to secure the frame 3 at the points which are denoted by the reference numeral 11. At the very end is arranged a pivot hole 13 for rotatable mounting of a pivot pin (not shown) on the adjacent interior corner of the window frame (not shown).
In the way shown, one avoids the need for drilling jigs for the predrilling of screw holes 11, or trial and error" mounting based on the use of a metre rule or the use of drill gauges.
With the taught solution, it is even possible to mount the window fittings at building site. For the storing and transport of window frames, it is a great advantage that gliders with fitting attachments, as well as hinge arms with a fitting plate, are not mounted, as damage may easily occur.
The mounting of the fittings is simple and safe, and will significantly reduce the time required for mounting in relation to what has previously been conventional.
