Abstract

A garment hanger has an elongate member 10 with links 16 pivoted at 24 at each end, and an integral blade spring 18 extends between each link and the arm to allow the links to pivot inwardly and be spring returned by the blade springs. The elongate member, the link and the springs are made as an integral plastics moulding. <IMAGE>

Description

CLOTHES !!ANTE This invention relates to a garment hanger or clothes hanger which is particularly suitable for supporting skirts and trousers by engagement in the waist band of the garment.
According to the invention a garment hanker comprises an elongate member, suspension means for the hanger provided on or extending from the said member, a pair of links each pivotally connected to one of the respective ends of the said member, at least a pair of blade springs extending between the said member and the links, said springs urging the free ends of the links apart, and in which at least the elongate merger. the links and the springs are all made unitrily and integrally as a plastics moulding Two embodiments of the invention t:i 11 now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein:: Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a garment hanger Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 9-9 of Figure 1 Figure 3 is an even more fragmentary vie'. similar to Figure 1, but of the second embodiment: and Figure 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring first to Figures 1 and 2. the elongate member comprises a pair of arms 10 which extend as a very shallow Vee from a stem 12 which is connected to a suspension loop 14. A link is provided at each end of the pair of arms 16, only one of which links is shown in the drawing. A blade spring 18 (only one of which is shown) extends between each arm and the free end of each link.
The elongate member 10 consists of a web of material extending between a pair of parallel flanges 20 20, so that the elongate member is of somewhat 'I' shape. The elongate member has an upturned end portion 22.
Each link 16 is similarly of 'I' shape in cross section, but locally thickened at 26 so as to bear parallel teeth 28 on its outer face for better engagement for example with the waist band of a skirt or trousers.
Conveniently but inessentially the link is extended arcuately upwardly and outwardly at 30. to facilitate finger engagement in supporting the hanger, and the extremity of this part may be extended as shown in broken line at 32 to form a hook to engage skirt loops or the like so as to provide an alternative garment engagement and suspension means.
The blade spring 18 may be of rectangular cross section with its major dimension parallel to the major dimension of the thickened portions 20 of the elongate part, so as to facilitate flexing in spring action so as to take central parts of the blade spring in the vicinity of the arrow 34 inwardly towards the apex 36 when the link 16 pivots about pivot point 24 to contract the dimension between the two sets of teeth 9 The pivot may be afforded by a thinned part of the portion 20 at the junction of the link and elongate member in the conventional so-called living hinge manner well known in the plastics moulding art.
In use, the garment is arranged to form a flattened loop and the hanger is inserted into the loop so that the portions 28 engage at opposite points. The links may be pivoted towards one another to reduce the dimension between the two zones 28 for this purpose, accompanied by flexing of the blade springs. When they recover elastically the garment is gripped internally and can be hung with the hanger from a rail, hook or the like.
Turning now to Figures 3 and 4, in which like parts are designated by like references, the primary difference in Figures 3 and 4 is that the blade spring 18 is now duplicated at each end of the hanger. This can provide a greater degree of springyness, and allow for exanple a hanger to be made small enough, especially in the length of part 10, to accept a ladies size 10 garment. but deflects sufficiently under the springs to take much larger sizes.

Claims (7)

1. A hanger comprising an elongate member, suspension means for the hanger provided on or extending from the said member, a pair of links each pivotally connected to one of the respective ends of the said member, at least a pair of blade springs extending between the said member and the links, said springs urging the free ends of the links apart, and in which at least the elongate member, the links and the springs are all made unitarily and integrally as a plastics moulding.
2. A hanger as claimed in Claim 1 wherein two blade springs are provided between each link and the respective end of the elongate member.
3. A hanger as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein said member is of I shape in cross-section and the blade springs are of rectangular cross-section with their major dimension parallel to the major dimension for the thickened portions of the I shape.
4. A hanger as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 3 wherein each link is of I shape in cross-section and is locally thickened and bears teeth on the outer face of the thickened portion.
5. A hanger as claimed in any preceding claim wherein each link is extended arcuately upwardly and outwardly.
6. A hanger as claimed in Claim 5 wherein each extension includes a hook portion.
7. A hanger substantially as described with reference to Figures 1 and 2 or Figures 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawings.
