Abstract

A box file or wallet wherein either the front wall 2 or the back wall 3 carry a resiliently biased flap 11, integrally formed with the wall, which is biased towards the other wall so as to retain papers located within the file or wallet. The file or wallet is made from a folded sheet of rigid polypropylene. The file or wallet is provided with a closure flap 8 having a flexible tab (9, Fig. 2) for insertion in a slot (10) in the front wall 2. <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION "Improvements in or relating to a Stationery Product" THE PRESENT INVENTION relates to a stationery product and more particularly relates to a file or wallet adapted to hold papers.

Many files and wallets have been produced previously adapted to hold papers, and typically such files or wallets are made of card. The present invention seeks to provide an improved file or wallet.

According to one aspect of this invention there is provided a stationery product in the form of a file or wallet adapted to contain papers, the file or wallet having a front portion and a rear portion spaced apart by side walls and a bottom wall to define a cavity to receive papers, a selected one of the front and back walls carrying a resiliently biased flap which is biased towards the other of the front and back walls so as to retain papers located within the file or wallet.

Preferably the flap is formed integrally with the wall that carries the flap. Advantageously the entire product is formed from a single folded blank. Preferably the blank is made of rigid polypropylene.

According to another aspect of this invention there is provided a stationery product in the form of a file or wallet adapted to contain papers, one side wall of the file or wallet being formed from a rigid material having inherent resilience, that wall carrying a flap which is folded over to extend into the space defined between the said wall of the product and an opposed wall, the flap being resiliently biased towards the opposed wall to retain papers located in a file or wallet.

Preferably the said opposed wall of the file or wallet carries a flap adapted to be folded to overlie the first wall to close the file or wallet.

Preferably the said flap carried by the other wall is provided with a tab adapted to be received in a slot defined by the said one wall.

In order that the invention may be more readily understood, and so that further features thereof may be appreciated, the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a file or wallet in accordance with the invention, FIGURE 2 is a front view of the file or wallet of Figure 1 showing the main access flap in an open condition, and FIGURE 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the file or wallet of Figures 1 and 2.

The file or wallet of Figures 1 and 2 is fabricated from a single sheet of rigid polypropylene material. This is a plastics material which has some inherent resiliance.

The product is made by cutting an appropriate blank from a sheet of rigid polypropylene and then folding the blank to form the file or wallet as illustrated. The folded blank may be held in the erect condition by tabs formed on the blank engaging slots formed on the blank or may be held in position by means of bonding, welding, riveting or any other appropriate technique.

The wallet 1 in accordance with the invention as illustrated in the drawings is provided with a front portion 2 which is spaced from a rear portion 3. Side wall portions 4 and a base 5 serve, together with the front portion and rear portion 2 and 3 to define a recess 6 adapted to receive papers. The rear portion 3 continues upwardly to form a top wall 7 and a closing flap 8 which is adapted to fold down and overlie the top part of the front portion 2. The flap 8 carries a flexible tab 9 adapted to be inserted into a slot 10 formed by the front portion 2 in order to close the file or wallet. When the file or wallet is to be opened the tab 9 is disengaged from the slot 10 enabling the flap 8 to be moved upwardly to the position illustrated in Figure 2 in which papers may be inserted into the interior 6 of the file or wallet.

Formed integrally with the front portion 2 of the file or wallet is a further flap 11 which extends from an upper part of the front portion 2, and which is folded over so as to extend downwardly within the recess 6. The inherent resilience of the polypropylene material from which the file or wallet is formed is such that the flap 11 is biased so that the lower terminal part 12 thereof is urged into contact with the rear portion 3 of the wallet.

If papers are introduced into the wallet the papers will be guided down the inclined upper surface of the further flap 11 and will then pass between the lower terminal portion 12 of the flap 11 and the rear portion 3 of the wallet. The further flap 11 will, however, still be biased resiliently towards the back portion 3 of the wallet and will thus serve to retain the papers firmly in position within the wallet.

While the invention has been described with reference to one embodiment which is in the form of a relatively narrow wallet, the invention would also be applied to other embodiments, such as box file of conventional size. Also, while the further flap that serves to retain the papers is shown as being formed integrally with the front wall portion, this further flap could be formed integrally with the rear wall portion.

Claims

CLAIMS:

1. A stationery product in the form of a file or wallet adapted to contain papers, the file or wallet having a front portion and a rear portion spaced apart by side walls and a bottom wall to define a cavity to receive papers, a selected one of the front and back walls carrying a resiliently biased flap which is biased towards the other of the front and back walls so as to retain papers located within the file or wallet.

2. A product according to Claim 1 wherein the flap is formed integrally with the wall that carries the flap.

3. A product according to Claim 2 wherein the entire product is formed from a single folded blank.

4. A product according to Claim 3 wherein the product is made from a rigid polypropylene blank.

5. A stationery product in the form of a file or wallet adapted to contain papers, one side wall of the file or wallet being formed from a rigid material having inherent resilience, that wall carrying a flap which is folded over to extend into the space defined between the said wall of the product and an opposed wall, the flap being resiliently biased towards the opposed wall to retain papers located in a file or wallet.

6. A product according to Claim 5 wherein the said opposed wall of the file or wallet carries a flap adapted to be folded to overlie the first wall to close the file or wallet.

7. A product according to Claim 6 wherein the said flap carried by the other wall is provided with a tab adapted to be received in a slot defined by the said one wall.

8. A file or wallet substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.

9. Any novel feature or combination of features disclosed herein.
