Abstract
A bracket of steel construction 1 with a projecting staple 2 which passes through the slot in a garage door 4 at a point where it is reinforced by the plates bolted on either side thereof. On closure of the garage door 4 the staple 2 passes through the slot and enables a padlock 5 to be secured on the outside thus preventing the raising of the garage door. <IMAGE>
Description
SECURITY PADLOCK BRACKET
This invention relates to a padlock bracket specifically for use on, and the protection of, up-and-over garage doors.
The present methods of locking upand-over garage doors make them vunerable to break-in and resultant theft or damage to property. There is presently no device available which is specifically designed for use on these doors in order to improve their security and reduce the risk of forced entry.
The invention is designed to be:
(a) Easy to install.
(b) Simple and effective in
operation.
(c) Difficult to attack for the
purpose of forced entry.
The invention consists of two main components.
Figure 1 A steel bracket of 900
angle with a diagonal
fillet welded in for
strength and a staple for
the attachment of a
padlock. This bracket is
intended to be anchored by
means of expanding bolts
into the concrete base of
the garage and on the
inside thereof.
Figure 2 A reinforcement consisting
of two steel plates which
are bolted together
eitherside of the skin of
the garage door to form a
"sandwich" and provide a
slot for the accommodation
of the staple in the
bracket.

Referring to the drawing the security deivce consists of a steel rightangled bracket 1 with a projecting "tongue" or staple 2 with a hole for the attachment of a padlock and two reinforcing plates 3.
The reinforcing plates are secured either side of the skin of the garage door 4 by means of four bolts and the slot in the reinforcing plate is copied in the door by means of a drill and file thus allowing the free passage of the staple 2.
The reinforcing plates are secured at a predetermined height from the ground to ensure alignment with the staple on the bracket. The bracket is positioned inside the garage and fixed by four expanding bolts into the concrete base ensuring the staple is in line with the slots in the reinforcing plates.
In operation the garage door 4 is closed and a padlock 5 attached to the staple 2 thereby preventing the door 4 from being raised. The bracket is located inside the closed garage and cannot be attacked by a person attempting a forced entry to the garage.
Claims (6)
1. A Security Padlock Bracket specifically for use on p-and-over garage doors.
2. A security bracket as claimed in claim 1 to improve the resistance
of the garage door being opened by forced entry.
3. A security bracket as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 which is fixed
internally to the base of the garage by means of expanding bolts.
4. A security bracket as claimed in 3 which has two reinforcing
plates fitted to and either side of the garage door to provide a
strenghtened point at which the staple of the bracket passes
through a slot.
5. A security padlock bracket as claimed in 1 to 4 to which on
closure of the garage door a padlock may be attached to the staple
preventing the door being raised.
6. A Security Padlock Bracket substantially as described herein with
reference to figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawing.
