Abstract

A releasable snib mechanism for a door latch assembly includes a support body (14, 28). A rotary member (22) is disposed in the support body and is adapted to be engaged by and rotated with a door latch shaft (12). A snib member (24) is mounted on the support body for movement between a snibbing position, in which the rotary member is snibbed against rotation, and a freeing position in which the rotary member is free to rotate with the door latch shaft. A release lever (26) is supported for rocking movement in a plane transverse to the door, effective to move the snib member (24) from the snibbing position to the freeing position. When the release lever (26) is supported on a door, it extends through the door for engagement from the other side of the door to cause the rocking movement. <IMAGE>
