Abstract

A bracket for hanging a flower basket or the like on a fencing post comprises one or more upright members (10, 15) attached to hooks (17) which locate over the top of a concrete fencing post. Between a pair of said upright members (15) there extend upper and lower members (14) to which is attached an inverted L-shaped hanging bracket (10, 11) on the outer end of which may be suspended the hanging ring of a flower basket. <IMAGE>

Description

A BRACECEIW FOR A HANGING FLOWER BASKET OR THE LIKE THIS INVENTION concerns a bracket to be removably mounted on a fencing post to support a hanging flower basket or the like.

Brackets for this purpose are usually permanently fixed by screws to a wall of a building, and it is the purpose of this invention to provide a bracket which may be removably mounted on a concrete fencing post so as to suspend a flower basket part way along a garden fence.

According to the present invention there is provided a bracket for suspending a flower basket or the like from a fencing post, comprising an upright part adapted to bear against an upper region of a forward face of the post, a hook rigidly attached to or integral with the upright part and adapted to be located over at least a part of the top of the post, an arm extending forwardly from the upright member to suspend the flower basket or the like from a position spaced outwardly from the post, and at least one lateral member attached to or integral with the upright part and adapted to prevent the bracket from rotating about a vertical axis.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a bracket made in accordance with the invention placed in position on a fencing post; Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view from the rear of the bracket after removal from the post.

Referring now to the drawings, a bracket for suspending a flower basket or the like from a fencing post is preferably made from steel components and comprises an upright member 10 from the top of which extends forwardly an arm 11 whose free end 12 is formed with a depression 13 for engaging the hanging ring of a flower basket (not shown). The upright member 10 is welded to or integral with the mid points of a vertically spaced pair of lateral members 14 whose length correspond approximately with the width of a standard concrete fencing post which is in the region of 100mm across.

Welded to or integral with the ends of lateral members 14 are a further pair of horizontally spaced upright members 15 which bear against the upper region of the front face of the post 16. Each further upright member 15 carries at its top a hook which as can be seen passes over and locates behind a rear face of the front part of the post 16, i.e. within the side channels of the post in which fencing panels are engaged.

Preferably, for decorative purposes, a scrolled strip 18 is welded part way along the underside of arm 11 and to the lower region of the central upright member 10.

For manufacturing convenience, member 10 and arm 11 are formed from a single strip of steel bent to form a right angle, as are upright members 15 and associated hooks 17.

Rigidity of the bracket in use is ensured by the location of the hooks 17 respectively in opposed channelled parts of the post 16, so that the bracket is prevented from rotating about a vertical axis through the member 10.

Whilst the principal purpose of the bracket is to suspend a flower basket or the like, it may be used also for attachment of other plant suspension lines and may be used also for the attachment of a clothes line.

By providing a number of such brackets along the line of a fence a number of flower baskets may be provided, and the line of brackets may be used for supporting a hose pipe or electrical cable in a safe location above the ground.

Claims

1. A bracket for hanging a flower basket or the like from a fencing post, comprising an upright part adapted to bear against an upper region of a forward face of the fencing post, a hook rigidly attached to or integral with the top of said upright part and adapted to be located over at least a part of the top of the post, an arm extending forwardly with respect to the upright part to suspend a flower basket or the like spaced from the post, and at least one lateral member attached to or integral with the upright part and adapted to prevent the bracket from rotating about a vertical axis.

A bracket according to Claim 1, including a laterally spaced pair of said upright parts held in spaced relationship by upper and lower lateral members, each upright part having a hook for location over the top of said post, said arm extending forwardly from the upper of said lateral members, there being a further upright part attached to or integral with said arm and extending vertically between approximately the mid points of said lateral members.

3. A bracket according to Claim 2, including a scrolled strip attached to and extending between said arm and said further upright member.

4. A bracket according to any preceding claim, wherein the forward end of said arm is formed with a depression for engagement of the suspension ring of a flower basket.

5. A bracket according to any preceding claim, whose maximum lateral dimension is equivalent to that of a concrete fencing post, i.e. in the region of 100mm.

6. A bracket for hanging a flower basket or the like, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
