Abstract

A heater for liquid comprises a vessel (11) having an inlet (20) for cold liquid and an outlet (18) for hot liquid, and an outlet (N) through which vapour given off from the heated liquid passes into a chamber (15), first (26), second (28) and third (29) sensor means, the first sensor means (26) being sensitive to the temperature of the liquid in the vessel (11), the second sensor means (28) being sensitive to the presence of liquid at a second level (L2) and the third sensor means (29) being sensitive to the temperature within the chamber, the sensor means (26, 28, 29) being connected in a control circuit which is arranged to supply power to a heating means (12) to heat the liquid in the vessel (11) until the third sensor means (29) senses a first threshold temperature and then to cut off the power to the heating means (12) and the control circuit being arranged to supply power to an electrically operated valve means (22) to open the valve means (22) to permit liquid to enter the vessel through the inlet (20) when both the first sensor means (26) senses that the temperature of the liquid in the vessel (11) has risen to a second threshold temperature and the second sensor means (28) senses no liquid at the second level (L2).
