Abstract

A display device 10, particularly intended for use as a point of sale device, comprises a base member 12 having an upwardly projecting Portion 20 provided with "T" shaped slots 28, 30. The slots are used for attachment of a clip (16, Figure 4) which has "T" shaped lugs (60, 61, Figure 5) slid ably engagable with the slots (28, 30). The clip also has spring tongues (58) having lugs (54) snap engagable in recesses (56) in a display support member (14) within which display material 50 can be slid. The arrangement is such that the support member 14 can be removed very rapidly for replacement, leaving the base member 12 in position. <IMAGE>

Description

Title: DISPLAY DEVICE The present invention relates to a display device, for example a point of sale display device.

One of the difficulties associated with current display devices is that any change in the information or size of information displayed usually requires a replacement device.

As will be appreciated, this is an unnecessary expense.

The present invention seeks to provide an improved display device.

Accordingly, the present invention provides a display device comprising a base member having an upwardly projecting portion extending along at least part of said base member, a generally planar support member for supporting a display and connecting means detachably connectable to said support member and to said upwardly projecting portion for detachably mounting said display on said base member.

A display device according to the present invention is further described hereinafter, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view from the rear of a preferred form of display device according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a perspective view from above and to the front of a stand of the device of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a side elevation of the disassembled parts of the device of Figure 1, the device being shown partly in section along the line 3-3 of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a front perspective view of a clip of the device of Figure 1, part of the clip being broken away for clarity; Figure 5 is a rear perspective view of the clip of Figure 4; and Figure 6 is a perspective view of a planar support member of the device of Figure 1.

The drawings show a display device in the form of a point of sale device 10 which has a stand 12 and a transparent support member 14 of generally planar form supported on the stand 12 by means of connecting means comprising a clip 16.

The stand has a generally planar, rectangular or square base 18 (although any suitable shape may be used) with an upwardly projecting raised portion 20 extending along one edge region.

The raised portion is of generally inverted "U" shape having front and rear walls 22, 24 and an upper surface 26 which is generally planar and co-planar with the base 18.

The two side walls 22, 24 are inclined towards one another away from the base 18.

The stand 12 is conveniently injection moulded and the raised portion is hollow to enable slots 28, 30 to be provided in the raised portion. Each slot is of generally "T" shape with the cross bar of the "T" being formed by a first slot portion 32, 34 in the upper surface 26 adjacent the side wall 24, and the stem of the "T" being formed by a generally upright slot portion 36, 38 formed in the side wall 24. The generally upright slot portion 36, 38 extends from the upper surface 26 to a point approximately half way down the side wall 24.

The clip 16 of generally "U" shaped cross section has front and rear generally co-planar faces 42, 44 with a gap therebetweeen dimensioned to receive the transparent support member 14. The latter comprises two sheets 40, 46 of generally clear plastics material joined along one adjacent edge 48 to receive printed advertising or display material 50.

The free edges 52 of the sheets 40, 46 opposite the edge 48 engage in the clip member 40, the support member being retained in position by the engagement of lugs 54 into cooperating recesses 56 formed in the outer surface of one sheet of the support member adjacent the edges 52. The lugs 54 are formed on tongues 58 formed in one wall of the clip to allow the lugs to resile away from the support member on insertion thereof and then back into the recesses 56 when the support member 14 is fully inserted into the clip 16. The spacing of the sheets 40, 46 of the support member and the internal width of the clip 16 are chosen such that the resilience of the sheets 40, 46 and the tongues 58 securely retain the support member in the clip by engagement of the lugs 54 in the recesses 56.

The clip 16 is secured to the raised portion 20 by means of lugs 60, 61 which are generally "T" shape in cross section, each having a generally planar portion 62, 64 supported coplanar with and in spaced relation to the rear wall of the clip by ribs 66, 68. The planar portions 62, 64 engage through the respective slot portions 32, 34 with the ribs 66, 68 engaging in the slot portions 36, 38 to secure the clip in position, the dimensions of the lugs 58, 60 and the slots 28, 30 being such as to hold the clip 16 firmly in position against the side wall 22.

In order to replace the display or provide a different sized support member to cater for different sizes of display it is simply necessary to remove the support member from the clip 16 and replace it with a new support member of the same size with the different advertising material or replace the support member and clip assembly with a new support member and clip of larger or smaller overall dimensions. Thus the display 50 can be changed rapidly, while the base member 12 remains in position, possibly secured to a counter-top or sales fitment or to a vehicle for sale.

Claims (8)

1. A display device comprising a base member having an upwardly projecting portion extending along at least part of said base member, a generally planar support member for supporting a display and connecting means detachably connectable to said support member and to said upwardly projecting portion for detachably mounting said display on said base member.

2. A display device according to Claim 1 wherein the connecting means comprises a clip having at least one tongue snap engagable with the support member.

3. A display device according to Claim 2 wherein the support member is provided with at least one recess and the tongue is provided with a lug adapted to be received in said recess.

4. A display device according to any preceding claim wherein the connecting means comprises a clip having at least one projecting lug frictionally engagable with the upwardly projecting portion.

5. A display device according to Claim 4 wherein the upwardly projecting portion includes at least one slot adapted to engage the lug.

6. A display device according to Claim 4 and Claim 5 wherein the or each slot or lug are of generally "T" shape.

7. A display device according to any preceding claim wherein the generally planar support member comprises a pair of sheets of clear plastics material joined along one edge and adapted to have said display slid between the sheets.

8. A display device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
