Abstract
A cable or pipe clamp arrangement comprises a slotted base member (not shown) and a plurality of cable support members 1 each having means 8 at one end co-operable with said slotted base member and means e.g. platform 11 and grips 9, 10 at the end opposite said one end co-operable with a cable to be damped such that by rotation of each said cable support means 1 through a part turn about an axis 6 extending between said ends each said support means 1 is secured to said base member and to said cable. <IMAGE>
Description
Stand-off Support Arrangements
The present invention relates to stand-off support arrangements, and in particular although not exclusively to stand-off support arrangements for elongate bodies such as pipes or electric cables.
According to one aspect of the present invention a stand-off support comprises at one end means cooperable with a base member and at the other end means cooperable with a body to be supported such that by rotation of said stand-off support about an axis extending between said ends said stand-off support is secured to said base member and to said body to be supported.
According to another aspect of the present invention a cable clamp arrangement comprises a slotted base member and a plurality of cable support members each having means at one end cooperable with said slotted base member and means at the end opposite said one end cooperable with a cable to be clamped such that by rotation of each said cable support means through a part turn about an axis extending between said ends each said support means is secured to said base member and to said cable.
According to another aspect of the present invention a stand-off support arrangement for an elongate body includes a base member and one or more stand-off supports each comprising at one end thereof first means cooperable with said base member and at the other end thereof second means cooperable with said elongate body such that by rotation of a stand-off support positioned between said base member and said elongate body through a part-turn about an axis extending between said ends said first means secures said stand-off support to said base member and said second means secures said stand-off support to said elongate body.
The first means may comprise a T-section projection at said one end of the stand-off support which is cooperable with a
T-section slot in said base member. The second means may comprise two spaced C-shaped projections at said other end of the stand-off support. The stand-off support may be of moulded polypropylene.
A stand-off support arrangment in accordance with the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, of which:
Figures 1 and 2 show respectively side and end elevations of a stand-off support, and
Figure 3 shows an isometric view of the stand-off support of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings the stand-off support, which is formed as a one-piece moulding of, say, polypropylene, comprises a generally I-section pillar 1 having a planar web 2 and stiffened flanges 3, the stiffening being provided by arrays of ribs 4 on the outer faces of the flanges 3.
At one end the pillar 1 terminates in a generally flat rectangular plate 5 which lies in a plane perpendicular to the axis 6 of the pillar 1 and which is provided, on its face remote from the pillar 1, with a projection 7 extending along the axis 6 and terminating in a generally rectangular transverse plate 8. At the other end of the pillar 1 the flanges 3 extend beyond the end of the web 2 to form respective C-shaped projections 9 which curve in opposite senses, the radially inner faces of these projections 9 being extended outwardly from the axis 6 by semi-cylindrical portions 10. The projections 9 and the portions 10 outline, in the end elevation shown in Figure 2, a circular passage through that other end of the support.
The end of the web 2 adjacent the projections 9 terminates in a transverse platform 11. The rectangular plate 5 is provided with slots 12 which may accommodate securing bolts (not shown).
The support may be secured to a base member (not shown) by means of the projection 7 and its transverse plate 8. Thus the plate 8 may be inserted in a key slot (not shown) or an elongated slot (not shown) in a base member and the support rotated through a quarter-turn about its axis 6 so that the ends of the plate 8 engage the edges of the slot. The same quarter turn about the axis 6 would bring the projections 9 to lie around any cable or pipe (not shown) placed across the platform 11.A run of cable or pipe may therefore be clipped or secured in position with respect to an elongated slotted base member by positioning supports at suitable intervals along the base member with their respective projections 7 and plates 8 in the slot in the base member, laying the cable or pipe across the respective platforms 11 between the respective projections 9, and then rotating each support about its axis 6 through a quarter-turn.
The projections 9 may describe slightly more than a semicircle as shown, so that either the projections or the cable or pipe deform upon engagement to provide a degree of grip between the projections and the cable or pipe. For extra security cable ties (not shown) may be fixed at intervals along the run, and these ties may pass through holes 13 in the web 2 of the support.
With heavy cables or pipes the latch comnprising the projection 7 and the plate 8 may deform under prolonged loading, and the slots 12 in the plate 5 allow for the support to be securely bolted to the slotted base member.
Claims (7)
1. A stand-off support comprising at one end means co-operable with a base member and at the other end means co-operable with a body to be supported such that by rotation of said stand-off support about an axis extending between said ends said stand-off support is secured to said base member and to said body to be supported.
2. A stand-off support, as claimed in Claim 1, for an elongate body, including a base member and one or more stand-off supports each comprising at one end thereof first means co-operable with said base member and at the other end thereof second means co-operable with said elongate body such that by rotation of a stand-off support positioned between said base member and said elongate body through a part-turn about an axis extending between said ends said first means secures said stand-off support to said base member and said second means secures said stand-off support to said elongate body.
3. A cable clamp arrangement comprising a slotted base member and a plurality of cable support members each having means at one end co-operable with said slotted base member and means at the end opposite said one end co-operable with a cable to be clamped such that by rotation of each said cable support means through a part turn about an axis extending between said ends each said support means is secured to said base member and to said cable.
