Abstract

The mirror 1 of a mirror door is held in place within its frame 2 by a gasket 4 located to the rear of the mirror and not embracing the mirror edge as in the prior art. <IMAGE>

Description

IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO MIRROR DOORS This invention relates to the mounting of a mirror in a frame for use as a mirror door of a sliding mirror door wardrobe.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a cross-section through a frame member for the mirror door of a sliding door wardrobe, in accordance with the prior art; and Figure 2 is a cross-section through the improved frame in accordance with the invention.
Referring to the drawing, and firstly to Figure 1, a mirror 1 of the known wardrobe door is supported in a frame 2 fabricated from aluminium or aluminium alloy extrusions. The frame 2 is supported by conventional sliding door gear with the side F to the front. The frame has a channel 3 in which the edge of the mirror 1 is received. A U-section PVC gasket 4 is applied to the edge of the mirror before assembly.
The need to apply the gasket before assembly hinders the construction of the mirror door, and the presence of the gasket along the front edge of the door spoils the overall effect.
In accordance with our invention, and as shown in Figure 2, the channel 3 has a plane forward wall 5 against which the mirror 1 abuts, and a gasket 4 is inserted into the channel only at the rear of the mirror.
The rear wall 6 of the channel has a lip 7 which engages in or forms a groove along the rear surface of the cross-section. The gasket may be snapped into place in the channel 3 following assembly of the frame around the mirror. The gasket may be compressed to a predetermined amount within the channel.

Claims (4)

1. A mirror door of a wardrobe, including a mirror supported in a channel of a metallic frame, the mirror abutting the forward wall of the channel, and a gasket interposed between the mirror and the rearward wall of the channel without embracing the edge of the mirror.
2. A mirror door as claimed in claim 1, including a gasket which tapers in cross-section.
3. A mirror door as claimed in claim 2, wherein a lip along the edge of the rearward wall of the channel engages in or forms a groove in the gasket.
4. A method of assembling a mirror door of a wardrobe including assembling a frame around the mirror and inserting a gasket into the frame rearwardly of the mirror.
